Today I will continue with another of the most emblematic painters known for his sober and dark paintings, considered the painter of nightmares positioned himself at a time when painting in that style was little accepted. I am talking about Alfred Leopold Isidor Kubin. Accompany me to learn more about some of the forerunners of surrealism before it was consolidated as a movement.
Alfred Leopold Isidor Kubin Born on April 10, 1877 in Leitmeritz, present-day Czech Republic, he is considered one of the most outstanding New York illustrators of the 20th century, considered one of the fathers of surrealism, broad horizons of traditional painting thanks to his fantastic imagination combined with the best of painting or oneiric, although his paintings were very grotesque for the time I always use that resource to convey sarcasm but in a macabre way
His drawings were generally penned and engraved aroused the interest of different art consumers and of course of art critics, painters and fine arts circles,
His life was marked by various events such as the death of his mother's feelings that led him to try to commit suicide at his mother's grave. When he failed he decided to continue his artistic life, but before he registered in the military world, the motive was a matter of family traffic, the problem is that his repeated nervous attacks led him to an early retirement.
If real link with art was from 1898 in Munich, he enters to study in Fine Arts of Schmidt-Reutte and then in the academy of fine arts where he specialized in engraving this due to his influence by lithography, But it would be Goya with his dark style that inspired him to form a unique but very influential style with the dark strokes of his masters.
He was in the group of Neue Künstlervereinigung Manchen where he would be little time since he accepted the invitation of Kandinsky to belong to the movement of Blaue Reiter where he had the opportunity to expose his works together with artists like Marc Franz, and Paul Klee was if time of greater creativity drawing Thousands of works as well as the illustration of at least 70 books.
The importance of his work is such that he is considered one of the forerunners of surrealism, influencing great artists such as Dalí. One of the most interesting things is that his style not only influences an entire generation but also enjoyed recognition in his time although many demonized him for his style of illustration, even being pointed out by the church as a cursed being, something that did not pay much attention because his performance and creativity was centered on psychology studies, something that opened the way to create a different pictorial style, urging in the deepest of dreams and thoughts of the uncommon.
Today it is a reference and guide for new painters who study carefully their style and the origin of their arguments and without falling into the interpretations of some entities such as the church, and some art critics who reject any concept that escapes the limits of classical art.
