The Silence of the Forest and the Story of a Strange Liberation of the Soul
When Henry Martin's 'Escena mística' came before my eyes, a kind of dull feeling arose in my mind. For some reason, I felt as if I was standing somewhere hidden in that dense forest and watching the scene. The man on the left side of the picture, who was sitting completely merged with the ground, made my heart ache. His black clothes seemed to blend in with the dense darkness around him. When we are in great danger or suffer from some deep sense of guilt, that is exactly how we become alone, isn't it? The artist has brought that loneliness to life here.

I stared at the man's posture as he lowered his head and covered his face for a long time. I felt that he was probably crying in some deep pain. Just then, a figure floating in the air on the opposite side caught my eye. What a strange, magical light is coming out of his body! That mixture of pink and white seems to wash away all the darkness of the forest in an instant. What is that floating statue? Maybe it is the hope of the broken man's heart, which wants to run towards the sky, overcoming all obstacles. Martin's use of colours, or those small dot-like colour works, gives this miraculous scene a dreamy atmosphere. Honestly, it feels like I am seeing a dream that is completely real.
The most surprising thing is the back of the picture. What a beautiful, bright sun beyond the deep shadows of the forest! How normal life is there. I can see some people working there, some maybe taking care of children, some herding sheep. This world is very ordinary, very familiar to them. But this spiritual and tragic scene happening in front of the canvas seems beyond the reach of those ordinary people in the background. Isn't our life like that, too? When we break down from within, the world continues to operate according to its own rules. No one knows what a huge war is going on inside us. The artist has portrayed this contrast so perfectly that I cannot help but be amazed.
The tree trunks seem to be praying to the sky. Where the sunlight falls on the forest floor, the grass shines like gold. This play of light has fascinated me immensely. Looking at the picture, I feel a strange kind of peace, and at the same time, a kind of unease also works in a corner of my mind. This battle between darkness and light is probably the true form of our life. Martin's work reminded me that no matter how great the darkness, light will eventually triumph. The tears of man may stop one day, when he gets the touch of that heavenly light.
I am truly grateful to have the opportunity to write about the art of a talented person like Henry Martin through this competition. With the touch of his brush, an ordinary forest has become a holy temple. While writing the text, I unknowingly got lost in the picture. I think that a work of art is only worthwhile when it can create such a deep stir in the mind of the viewer. This picture is not just some colours smeared on a canvas, but it is a thousand unspoken words of man and a pitiful and beautiful cry of the soul. I pay my humble tribute to the artist Martin through this small feeling of mine.
