Art Nouveau: Margaret Mcdonald-"Heart of the rose"

in #palnet7 years ago (edited)

Margaret Mcdonald was a woman who had a lot of talent, along with her husband they were known to conform as if they were a single person in the plastic task. Born in a part of the central region of England, she was always a person who stood out in the creative part, studied with her sister in Paris at the Glasglow School of Art, a revolutionary space for women since most of the studies of art were dedicated exclusively to men. They graduated with knowledge in textiles and metal, and then opened their own studio in 1894.
Even that Margaret was a great artist, while I was reading about her biography of her works, her husband is strongly mentioned, although that he helped her and was supported by her contemporaries, she was equally displaced by the male figure who accompanied her.

Heart of the rose (1920)

The work heart of the rose shows an exquisite simplicity that contrasts with the background that denotes texture. The face of two very similar women is perceived in the upper area of the painting, facing each other, the one on the right tilts its head slightly back, while the other maintains its firm face in the foreground, both looking faithfully at the viewer, the shapes of their bodies stand out with oval-shaped fabrics, the lines that make them up become strings that remind of copper when it is rolled, converging in the center into a small female figure enclosed in a red circle, with several roses that adorn the road, two white ones that are located in the red color and two red ones that are displaced between the woman's clothes in the foreground, the subject that could be dealing could be life, glimpsed inside the woman's womb, accompanied by the influence of her sister. The rest of the composition confers details like a kind of wing that forms on the back of the woman that carries the girl, with an influence of the textiles that are perceived deployed to the right and left of the composition.
It is a work treated in a middle tonal key, with an open composition due to the fact that there are elements that leave the frame, the colors treated are inclined towards the earth colors while the highlight element would be the movement that is combined with the lines that move in curved shapes conferring a dynamic reading to the work, receiving the focal point towards the pale red and gray center of the girl who resides there.
