A Day At Osage Hills State Park - An Oklahoma Park
My father passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, and the past few days has been hellish. Thursday was the viewing and my stress level was ridiculous. @scottf and I have found that when we are hit with extremely difficult times getting outside helps us keep our heads on straight and enables us to recharge and be able to focus on the important things. We decided to take our Grand George @akacarl with us and help him get away from the constant talk about my father's passing.

Heading out to Osage Hills State Park.
One of the things that Scott and I do at every state and national park is taking a photo of us in front of a park sign. We have been encouraging our Grand Georges to take the same type of sign photos so when they are older they will have a photo to remember this memory by. Sometimes this is a rather difficult thing, but not at Osage Hills State Park. The sign is on a natural sandstone platform and shows the type of geology you will find all over the park. The park is at the most southern end of the area called the Osage Hills, but are also called the Flint Hills in Kansas. The Osage/Flint Hills reaches from Oklahoma and into the middle of Kansas (you can find more information HERE).

Enjoying the view.
We took Carl for a hike, hoping the sun and fresh air would do him some good. The Overlook Hiking Trail we started on is approximately three miles, but we only went a half mile in. Begging to go play in the river, we knew we had to get to the boy to the nature trail that runs along the river. So we turned and headed towards lower ground where the trail is much easier. That is a good thing for me!

I guess he gets his love for cliff edges from me!
Sand Creek meanders through Osage Hills State Park showing the limestone and sandstone floor. Here you will find round river rocks that are perfect for throwing and skipping. Carl and I spent an hour throwing many rocks against the large limestone wall directly across from us. This was a very therapeutic activity for us both. I was feeling angry with myself for not being there more often to see my dad more often, while my little man was frustrated and angry as well. It was a moment we both needed and it helped us both, I do believe.

@akacarl loves the water and is willing to share it with anyone in his way.
March is not always the best time to play in the water when you live in Oklahoma. But this boy loves to play in the water, this day was no different than any other. The wonder and surprise to find such a beautiful place could be seen in his face as he surveyed the small falls. His questions were mixed with laughter as he slid on the slick limestone. "Do you know how deep this place gets?" "Can I play on the rope swing over there?" "Where are all the snakes?" I just thought my ears were going to fall off.

Taking time to get a photo of us three together.
By the time we made it to Carl's home we were all exhausted, but we were feeling a little stronger and better to deal with the path we have the coming days. Grief does not heal quickly, but days like this help to heal the soul.

I am sorry to hear that your Dad passing away. I exactly know how you feel. My Dad died about 6 weeks ago on February 17th and I miss him so. My condolences to you and your family.
I was actually following your post about that. It broke my heart for you. However, it helped me know I wasn't alone and there would be people I could go to if the pain was too much. Thank you so much.

Sorry to hear about your father's passing tough getting out and about is a great way of allowing yourself to feel good again!
Glad you guys were able to throw out some of your frustrations ;)
Thank you. It wasnt unexpected, but the timing was. Getting out helped so much.
Quality of the videos is outstanding @xcountytravelers, all those trees should be starting to bud soon; and that actually looked like a fun hike.
The Bartlett Pears were and a few were budding. Come the middle of April they will be amazing.
And thank you.
I’m so sorry to hear about your Dad passing away
Sending you and your family lots of love
Thank you @nathanmars. It was peaceful and the family is already healing. I am ready to get back to normal, but I still have moments of sadness. However, he raised a strong daughter and I can get through this.
Thank you again.

Im sorry for your loss... I think this post was wonderful and a good way to deal with your loss.
Carl seems to be having great fun, il bet he climbs any thing ha ha :D
video is awsome, great job on that :D
Thank you. I struggle with depression so I get out when it is sunny as often as I can. I figured he could use the time outside and I knew he could throw things and not hurt anyone or anything; there were three black eyes and two huge bruises from him throwing things so something had to be done! haha. Oh, that boy is a monkey for sure. He was literally climbing walls by the time he was four. His mother still cusses about the footprints five feet up the walls!
Thank you. I do love making them and I am learning new things all the time.

That sounds amazing! When we lived in Texas there were areas that had workout machine along the walking trails. I've not seen that before.
I am actually feeling much better. I know i will miss him, but he would have been upset if he knew i was sad so, trying to stay positive.
I have used been around them workout machines , when i lived in Canada. Hm i never tought they were great BUT i hade more fun with them when the kids came along ;) :D
Great to hear, of course and so you should. Aww a good boy xoxo
You are welcome @xcountytravelers

My father passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, and the past few days has been hellish.I am sorry. Read that just now.
Hope everything will be fine soon.
Best
Martin Medro.
Thank you. Things are getting back to normal slowly. I do appreciate your kind words.
My condolences for your loss. Your trip is a good way to heal the pain and remember the good times with your father. Losing someone is difficult but being around with family on trips eases up the burden in some way.
So very true. I find myself remembering his smile and laugh the most, this is a great thing. I will be getting out more because the sun helps with the depression and I have to fight it really hard right now. It's amazing how getting outside in the trees, water, and wilderness helps to heal.
Thank you, by the way.
