Ujong Blang Traditional Fish Market, Lhokseumawe City
A fish market is a commercial facility for the sale and purchase of various types of fish, aquatic organisms, and other seafood such as shrimp, squid, and shellfish. Fish markets function as distribution centers for seafood from fishermen to consumers, typically located on the coast or near ports. Fish markets in Indonesia, including Aceh, are generally open from morning to evening, and in some locations, even until nighttime.
The Ujong Blang Traditional Fish Market sells a variety of fresh fish caught by local fishermen. In recent years, the Ujong Blang Fish Market has become a fish market for residents of Lhokseumawe and parts of North Aceh, especially those living in the western part. The name Ujong Blang Fish Market comes from the fact that the traditional market is located in the area named after the village where the fish market operates. Most of the residents of Ujong Blang are fishermen and live along the coast of the village.
The Ujong Blang Fish Market is certainly familiar to the residents of Lhokseumawe. This traditional fish market is known for its variety of fresh fish, shrimp, and squid. Prices for all types of fish, shrimp, and squid are relatively low compared to those in the central Lhokseumawe market. In addition to potential buyers coming home from work, many also come specifically to find fresh fish. Shoppers can also enjoy the Ujong Blang beach, a popular tourist spot along the coast of Lhokseumawe and its surrounding areas.
This market is essentially a street market located along the road to the Ujong Blang tourist beach in Lhokseumawe City. Dozens of small stalls, spread out tens of meters apart, sell a variety of fresh fish from afternoon to evening. The Ujong Blang Traditional Fish Market's main attraction is its exceptional freshness, allowing customers to stop by anywhere along the street. Satisfactory service and a clean sales area are key features of the Ujong Blang traditional fish market. Prices are comparable to those sold in the morning markets in Lhokseumawe City, but the freshness and wide selection of fish at Ujong Blang Fish Market are a plus.
Generally, fish prices in Lhokseumawe city and at Ujong Blang Fish Market are heavily influenced by fishermen's catches and sea conditions. Fish prices can fluctuate at any time and depend heavily on the availability of that particular fish. However, the price range remains within the normal range of daily fish prices. Personally, I've been shopping for fish at Ujong Blang Market for the past few years because it's conveniently located compared to having to travel downtown. I only shop at the city market if I need other kitchen supplies. This afternoon, Raffa and I purchased some fresh fish at Ujong Blang Fish Market. I bought three types of fish, each weighing half a kilogram, for a total of IDR 65,000, equivalent to 66.46 Steem.
