A Memorable Dinner Stop at Warung Sate Tubaka, Matang Glumpang Dua

Last week, my son Abizar and I traveled to Banda Aceh to take him to his Islamic boarding school (pesantren). This trip felt a little different because it was just the two of us. As a father, I enjoyed every moment of our journey together, even though I knew that after arriving, I would have to leave him at the pesantren to continue his education.

We departed using a Hiace Batavia travel service. The journey was smooth for the most part until we reached the famous Kutablang Bridge in Bireuen Regency. Local people often jokingly call this area the "Strait of Hormuz" because traffic congestion is almost always unavoidable. During busy hours, vehicles can queue for one to two hours just to cross the bridge.

Thankfully, on our trip, the traffic had begun to move again, although it was still quite crowded. After successfully passing the bridge, we decided to stop for dinner before continuing the journey to Banda Aceh.

Our destination was Warung Sate Tubaka, located in Matang Glumpang Dua. This restaurant is well known among travelers who frequently travel along the Banda Aceh–Medan route. Its strategic roadside location makes it an ideal place to rest, stretch your legs, and enjoy a satisfying meal.

As soon as we arrived, the delicious aroma of freshly grilled satay welcomed us. The restaurant has a simple design, but it is clean, comfortable, and spacious. There is ample parking for both motorcycles and cars, making it convenient for travelers, especially those using private vehicles or travel services.

The menu offers a variety of Indonesian dishes, but the star of the restaurant is undoubtedly its satay. Visitors can enjoy beef satay, chicken satay, lamb satay, grilled dishes, warm rice, soup, and refreshing drinks. Everything is freshly prepared, ensuring that every serving arrives hot and full of flavor.

We ordered beef satay for dinner, and it did not disappoint. The meat was tender, perfectly grilled, and coated with a rich, flavorful seasoning. The peanut sauce was thick, savory, and slightly sweet, blending beautifully with the smoky aroma of the grilled meat. Combined with warm rice, every bite felt incredibly satisfying after several hours on the road.

While enjoying our dinner, Abizar and I spent time talking about his new life at the pesantren. We discussed his hopes, dreams, and the importance of studying diligently. For me, this dinner became more than just a meal—it became a precious father-and-son moment before we reached our destination.

Overall, Warung Sate Tubaka offers delicious food, generous portions, affordable prices, friendly service, and a comfortable atmosphere for travelers. If you are ever traveling through Matang Glumpang Dua, I highly recommend stopping here to recharge before continuing your journey.
