PUNJAB KINGS’S HEADACHE – ENTRY OF JHYE RICHARDSON AND RILEY MEREDITH DIDN’T MAKE ANY IMPACTFUL DIFFERENCE SO FAR

Today we are going to talk about why Punjab Kings is stuck with the same problem as they already had last year. From my point of view, the new buy Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith are not performing as expected as by Punjab Kings and their die-hard fans so far. Last year after facing some problem in the fast bowling unit, the especially poor performance of Sheldon Cottrell and Chris Jordan in the death overs, Kings XI Punjab just tried to change the fast bowing unit by buying Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith for the whooping price of 14 Cr and 8 Cr, respectively. Moreover, they also have changed their name from Kings XI Punjab to Panjab king, expecting that changing the team’s name will bring some luck as Delhi Capital enjoying at the moment when they changed the name from Delhi Daredevils. LOL.

Riley Meredith who has been part of all the 3 matches so far has picked just 2 wickets and conceded 105 runs in just 10 overs. Whereas Jhye Richardson picked up just 3 wickets by conceding 117 runs in the 11 overs.
BBL performances of PBKS purchased them because their BBL performances were outstanding but PBKS forget that BBL is played in Australia where the pitches are seamer-friendly. In IPL, it is very difficult to replicate that performance because you play against world-class players and wickets are good for batting as well.

To get back on track, PBKS should drop one of the overseas bowlers, most likely Riley Meredith, and play with an extra overseas batsman such as David Malan, the world’s best T20 batsman or Moises Henriques, an Australian all-rounder. Moises Henriques would be an ideal choice because he has good IPL performance so far.

Moreover, PBKS should give a chance to Indian seamer Ishan Porel who had superb domestic performance and would be keen to go if given an opportunity.
