One day... I stopped running from my silence

One day... I stopped running from my silence.
I always thought silence was my enemy.

Whenever I felt down, I'd look for anything to distract me from it.
Long conversations I didn't need.
Distractions that added nothing to my life.

Hours spent switching between screens, just so I wouldn't be alone with my thoughts.

I dreaded those moments when the world's noise subsided, because I knew something inside me would start to speak.
And I wasn't ready to listen.
But one day...
I had nowhere to escape to.

I sat alone, and it was the first time in a long time that I hadn't tried to silence myself.
At first, the silence was heavy.

It was as if it was throwing all the questions I'd been putting off in front of me.
Am I really on the path I want?

When was the last time I felt at peace?
And why am I putting in so much effort when I feel like something is missing?

Those questions weren't comfortable.
It hurt me.

But I realized the pain wasn't caused by the silence...
It was the truth I was running from.

I discovered that people don't always run from others.

Sometimes, they run from themselves.
They run from admitting they're tired.
From admitting that some of their dreams have changed.
From admitting they were strong in front of everyone, while inside they were just longing for a moment of peace.

As the days passed, silence no longer frightened me as it once did.

It became a space where I could organize the chaos of my thoughts.
And review my steps.
And remember that life isn't always a race, and that the heart sometimes needs to pause... not to give up, but to regroup.

I learned that the truest voices aren't the ones we hear around us.
But that quiet voice that whispers deep inside us, telling us the truth even when we try to ignore it.

And since that day...
I no longer run from my silence.
Because I discovered that the closer I get to it, the closer I get to myself. Perhaps...

The problem isn't being alone for a while.
The problem is spending years running from the person we'll be with for the rest of our lives... ourselves.

"Sometimes, peace doesn't come when the noise of the world stops... but when we stop running from our own inner voices."
