In Pakistan, a man married a Bosnian girl, and because of that, the society called the marriage a mixed one, but he did not like it. The man instead called it a cross cultural marriage. According to him, he was lucky to get a good wife and probably the best wife a man can ever want. Sadly, most of what he knew about marriage was different from everything he learnt as a child from his parents.

The first thing which always came to his mind on this matter was marry within your own culture. This was what he really hated. To him, culture controlled everything. Culture controlled the time you should wake up, food you should eat, clothes you should wear, kind of ceremony you should do in the marriage and the woman you should marry. Once a person gave all his authority to culture, it controlled his whole life.

His wife was the woman he married for his own reasons, but the culture never accepted it.

During the marriage when he introduced his wife to her first Pakistani wedding, people looked at them in a strange way as soon as they entered. Religious judgment stares were common among many people. His wife was surprised and asked him what the looks were all about. He explained to her that maybe, they felt they were doing something wrong for being together. They were Muslims, and he married her in a mosque. She did not understand why people stared at them.

Sadly, another issue was that she was very beautiful. Long blonde hair, blue eyes, sharp jaw, high cheek bones and a body which made modest clothing useless. People stared at her, then looked at him like he was one lucky guy who lost his mind because of her.

At the marriage event, some old people openly reminded him about the wisdom behind marrying within his own culture. That was when he broke down. He asked those people to tell him what the culture had given them that was worth keeping, biryani, beef kabobs or shalwar qameez. If that is the case, he will happily marry jeans for the rest of his life as long as he stays with his wife.

Those old people were shocked. He continued by saying that most times, men in the culture cared more about clothes and food than the wife. So he said that unless the culture is thrown away, men like him cannot be created.

He left the marriage ceremony and took his wife away. Neither the host nor anyone else had to say anything after what happened.
