18 AND to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, BUT TO THOSE WHO DID NOT OBEY?
19 SO WE SEE THAT THEY COULD NOT ENTER IN BECAUSE OF UNBELIEF.” Hebrews 3:18,19 (NKJV)

The Israelites who perished in the wilderness did, because of unbelief.
God was angry with them because they did not believe Him, their trust in Him was not sound:
16 FOR WHO, HAVING HEARD, REBELLED? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses? 17 NOW WITH WHOM WAS HE ANGRY FORTY YEARS? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness?" (Hebrews 3:16,17 NKJV).

When God instructed you, obey promptly.
God wants you to have rest in Him. Rest is a trust in God.
Thus, when you have rest in God's word, it means you have trust in Him—you rely on Him.
God wants whoever is following Him to be daring in his or her faith. You must be able to step out whenever He speaks.
Faith is a risk-taking adventure, an obedience to what you believe you have heard from God (Hebrews 11:8).
You must be proactive in your dealings or relationship with God. God wants prompt obedience to whatever He instructed you to do.

Note
• Fear of men should not be allowed (Galatians 1:10).
• What will people say should not be considered (Galatians 2:6).

Know that having obeyed God's instruction does not mean you will not be confronted with challenges or opposition in the bid of doing what God instructed you to do (Acts 16:8-10,16-24).
However, whatever the case is, you are sure of His presence, His backing, because you are acting on His Word—what He instructed you to do (Acts 16:9,10).
In the midst of Paul and Silas challenges in Macedonia, the purpose why they were led to that region was made manifest—the jailer and his household were saved and baptized (Acts 16:27-33).
Though the apostles suffered but God was glorified and souls were won to His kingdom (Acts 16:25-33).

Wherever you are led by God or whatever you are told to do by Him, be prompt in obeying.
Those who did not obey God's Word in the wilderness perished there, because of their unbelief and disobedience (Hebrews 3:15-19; 4:11).
Thus, faith pleases God but unbelief displeases Him: “BUT WITHOUT FAITH IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE HIM, HE WHO COMES TO GOD MUST BELIEVE THAT HE IS, AND THAT HE IS A REWARDER OF THOSE WHO DILIGENTLY SEEK HIM" (Hebrews 11:6 NKJV).

You will not fail in Jesus' name. Peace!
