Handles made from denim scraps (various) || The 3R-S31W2
Hello Teaching Team |

Hello My Steemain Friends ,
Today I am writing about an interesting Steemit Engagement Challenge S31- W2: which is all time my favourite topic ""Handles made from denim scraps (various) || The 3R-S31W2" this amazing challenge organised by @lunasilver
Provide a coherent and explanatory description of the process carried out, using your own images. |

First, I sorted through the piece of discarded clothing we had set aside—specifically jeans and cotton garments—to select my materials. I never simply throw away old clothes, as they invariably come in handy for some purpose or another down the line.

- I began by selecting a pair of jeans, from which I cut two rectangular pieces,

- each measuring approximately 7 × 8 inches.
Strips measuring approximately 2× 32
- Next, I pressed both pieces of fabric with an iron to ensure they were smooth and flat, making the subsequent sewing process much easier.
- I then took a piece of purple fabric, cut it into thin strips, and stitched them together to form a continuous length. This strip would serve two purposes: to bind the edges of the main fabric pieces and to create a hanging loop.
- I then took the two main fabric pieces and placed the stitched purple strip between them along the edges. Using my sewing machine, I stitched all four sides together to join the layers securely.
- After stitching, I turned the piece right-side out. Once turned, I was left with a perfectly finished, neat piece of fabric.
- Following this, I firmly pressed the entire piece by hand to ensure the layers adhered well to one another. This ensures that when the cloth is used in the kitchen—for instance, as a pot holder—it feels sturdy and substantial in the grip, rather than being flimsy or loose.

- Next, I took the purple binding strip I had attached to the edges, folded it over neatly to create a clean hem, and stitched it down.
- Finally, I attached a hanging loop to one of the corners. Thanks to this loop, the cloth can be easily hung up anywhere in the kitchen for convenient storage.

- And just like that, the project was complete!

Are you using waste materials or fabric scraps to create the upcycling project? |
|---|
The very essence of upcycling lies in taking discarded items lying around our home and transforming them into useful, functional objects. The cycle of recycling should never cease, and engaging in it also serves as a wonderful outlet for our creativity—especially when we repurpose seemingly useless items into something valuable for our household. This practice not only saves money but also frees up space that would otherwise be occupied by clutter, preventing the accumulation of unnecessary junk.
Ultimately, a brand-new, useful item is created. For this particular project, I utilized some of my children's old shirts and one of my own cotton kurtas. I paid particular attention to the choice of fabric, keeping in mind that this item would be used in the kitchen; I wanted to ensure that the material would not scorch or burn when used to handle hot pots and pans. And our hands didn't get burned either. For kitchen use, there is simply no fabric better than denim and cotton.
Encouraging others to learn about and get involved in upcycling and the 3Rs deserves promotion. On which platform did you promote it? Share a photo and the link. |

The practice of utilizing old items—repurposing them—and highlighting the benefits derived from doing so is invaluable. Recycling offers numerous advantages: it helps preserve the environment, saves money, and allows us to channel our creativity to beautify our homes. Furthermore, by crafting new objects out of items already found within our home, we can teach our children a valuable lesson: that we should never discard anything thoughtlessly, but rather always consider whether it can be reused. We have learned a great deal from participating in this competition.
