Hello Steemit friends,
I am a nursing student. While doing practical training in the hospital, I see every day how many people suffer from dehydration during hot weather. Symptoms like fever, dizziness, weakness, and even kidney problems are becoming very common, especially in our country during summer.
Today, I want to share with you 7 simple and effective ways to prevent dehydration — things I have learned and seen working in the hospital.

  1. Don’t Drink Plain Water Only – Add Salt & Sugar
Plain water alone is not enough in extreme heat. Mix a pinch of salt and one teaspoon of sugar in one glass of water. It works like a natural ORS and helps balance electrolytes in your body.

  2. Coconut Water – Nature’s Best Medicine
In the hospital, we often give coconut water to patients. It contains natural electrolytes and potassium. Try to drink 1–2 coconuts per day if possible.

  3. Eat More Fruits and Vegetables with High Water Content
Watermelon, cucumber, lemon, orange, and papaya are excellent. They provide both water and essential vitamins. Eat at least 2–3 fruits every day.

  4. Avoid Heavy Work During Peak Heat Hours
Stay indoors between 12 PM and 3 PM. Do light exercise or walking in the morning or evening instead of heavy activities.

  5. Wear Light-Colored and Loose Clothes
Avoid dark-colored clothes. Light colors (white, beige) and loose-fitting clothes help keep your body cool and reduce sweating.

  6. Recognize the Early Signs of Dehydration
If your mouth feels dry, urine becomes dark or less frequent, or you feel dizzy — these are warning signs. Start drinking water with salt and sugar immediately.

  7. Give Special Care to Children and Elderly People
They often forget to drink water. Offer them small amounts frequently throughout the day.

Final Thought:
Studying nursing has taught me that small daily habits can prevent big health problems. If you follow these simple tips, you and your family can stay healthy even in this hot weather.
Have you or anyone in your family ever faced dehydration? What did you do to recover? Please share your experience in the comments. I will try my best to reply.
