DAILY DIARY : DAY3. 11 JULY 2026| A Full Day Raising Grasscutters + Why They Are Gold For Income & Health*
Good evening Steemians.
Today was another productive day on the farm. People often ask me "why grasscutters?" Well, after living with them daily, I can tell you they are more than just animals. They’re food, income, and responsibility all in one.
MY DAY BREAKDOWN:
6:30 AM Woke up and said my prayers. Gratitude first.
7:00 AM First task: clean the grasscutters' cage. Hygiene is everything. A dirty cage brings sickness. After cleaning, I replaced their feeds with fresh ones.
9:00 AM Went to the market to search for feeds for tomorrow. Feed sourcing is part of the hustle. Prices change, so you have to be smart.
11:00 AM Back home. Washed the feeds thoroughly. My grasscutters don’t eat dirty feeds because it’s not good for their health. Clean food , healthy animals, better profit.
12:30 PM Had my bath, ate breakfast, I love to eat wheat and draw very much as you can see in the picture below, and took a quick snap of the morning.
2:00 PM Steemit time. I read 1-2 posts and engaged. I always learn something new here.
6:00 PM Headed out again to get elephant grass. Grasscutters love forage feeds because it’s their natural diet. Watching them eat it makes me know I’m doing something right.
6:45 PM On my way back, I stopped to take pictures of the sky. The sunset colors today 🌞 were too beautiful not to capture.
WHY GRASS CUTTER FARMING? THE ECONOMIC BENEFITS:
A lot of people sleep on grasscutter farming but here’s the truth:
- High demand, low supply: Grasscutter meat "bush meat" is a delicacy in Nigeria and across West Africa. Restaurants and individuals pay good money for it.
- Low startup cost: Compared to cattle or goats, grasscutters need less space and feed is mostly forage + farm by-products.
- Fast reproduction: One female can give birth 2-3 times a year with 4-6 babies. That’s income multiplying quickly.
- Easy to manage: They don’t need expensive drugs if you keep the cage clean and feed them well.
- Side income: You can sell live ones, smoked meat, or even supply to hotels. It’s a business that grows with consistency.
For me, it’s not just pets. It’s a small business that can feed my family and bring extra income.
NUTRITIONAL BENEFITS OF GRASS CUTTER MEAT:
This is why people love it so much:
- High in protein, low in fat Perfect for people watching their weight and for muscle building.
- Rich in iron: Good for people with low blood/anaemia.
- No chemicals: Unlike some factory meat, grasscutters eat natural grass and forage. So the meat is organic.
- Easy to digest: The meat is soft and doesn’t cause cholesterol problems like some red meat.
- Medicinal value: In some communities, people believe it helps nursing mothers and sick people recover faster.
That’s why the market never lacks buyers.
LESSON OF THE DAY:
Consistency in small things builds big results. Cleaning cages daily, washing feeds, going for grass it looks small but it’s what keeps the business alive.
GRATITUDE:
For strength, for healthy animals, and for God’s provision. And for that beautiful sunset that reminds me to pause and appreciate life.
