A citrus seedling growing all by itself under the outside stairs | Plant Photography

I was walking by the compound to our house and right under this very old brick staircase was this plant I found. The only thing done in this space is clearing the weed but they haven't done it in a long while. The one who comes to clear the land from weed growing hasn't been around in a long time so I've seen so many different plants grow. This one I'll tell them not to pluck out because it's a fruit plant.

I had to use Gemini and Google reverse image search to tell me what I was looking at. To the best of my knowledge and the best research I could do about it, I found out it could either be the young seedling of a lime or a lemon.

Even Google couldn't quite give me a definite answer to what exactly the plant was and I guess the only way to find out whether it's lime or lemon is to wait patiently for the fruits to come out. I really home it's lemon.

But judging from the way it looked it was leaving some clues. The scent of lemon is like a fresh dish. Lime is a bit spicier and more herbal so I'll need to smell or taste a little to know for sure but I won't take any chance I'll just wait.

I'll keep watching the leaf petiole because I already know that the Lime leaves typically have a petiole with a winged appearance. With Lemons, the petiole looks plain.

The wall location is a pretty bad place for it to grow but it's obvious the soil underneath is rich enough so it's growing all on its own. If it was my decision I wouldn't put it there because concrete holds and reflects a lot of heat back to the roots. It also doesn't allow the roots to spread so the plant looks like it is really fighting to grow although it's still very fresh.

Some parts of the leaf margin has holes, which means the plant has pests eating the leaves but nothing in this case is too complicated so it'll definitely survive. This plant is not fragile at all, it is citrus so it's tough by nature. With the proper care, it should have no issue flowering and fruiting.
