How Does The Starter Leaves Protect The Baby Plant
If you're new to gardening on Steemit and you're eager to plant seeds, I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you some common misconceptions, particularly about the young seedlings.
I've already spoken in my video, the reason why I see the great need to share this video and keep it on chain forever so that in the future, more people can see it.
Please always remember this, not every green thing in your garden needs fertilizer. You can ruin your gardening if you don't understand what I just told you.
The young leaves appear in pairs and they are not permanent, meaning they will be replaced after doing their job, they won't stay on the plant. They are smooth and they do not absorb nutrients from the soil.
The seeds you began planting with, contain enough nutrients to help those little seedlings flowers sprout from the soil.
If you're eager to help your crops grow by spreading fertilizer or manure across your garden, please think about that carefully and do it again. The reason is the Sprouts' roots are soft, weak, and are still developing. Fertilizer can literally burn the roots and even kill sprouts because they cannot absorb any nutrients yet.
It is exactly like how babies shouldn't take certain foods because their organs are not mature enough to digest those foods.
The sprouts rely on you to identify the right time to start feeding them. What we call the true leaves, are the second leaves that appear after the young tender ones disappear, and the true leaves they grow above the starter leaves.
These leaves are rough along the edges and have an entirely different shape compared to starter leaves.
So when these true leaves are grown, the roots are strong enough to absorb nutrients from the soil. This is the best way to keep your sprouts healthy. This waiting period prevents unnecessary plant loss in the early stages of growing a garden which you'll be surprised how common a plight it is for new gardeners.
