Staying Fit in Delhi's June Heat is a Different Kind of Challenge, Here's How I'm Managing It

Let me be upfront, maintaining any kind of fitness routine in Delhi right now, in June, when the temperature hits 44°C by 9 AM, is genuinely hard. Not "motivational poster" hard. Actually hard. The kind where you set your alarm for a morning walk, wake up, step onto your balcony, feel the hot air hit your face like opening an oven door, and seriously reconsider all your life goals. I've been there almost every day this month. But I've also figured out a few things that actually work, so let me share what's been helping me.

Timing is Everything Right Now

If you're trying to exercise outdoors in Delhi in June, the only window that makes sense is between 5:30 AM and 7 AM. That's it. After that, the sun is already brutal and the roads are heating up fast. I shifted my walk to 6 AM a few weeks ago and the difference is real, the air is still warm, but it's bearable. There's also something unexpectedly peaceful about Delhi at that hour. Fewer cars, fewer people, and if you're lucky, a slight breeze. I do a 30-minute brisk walk followed by some basic stretching near a small park in my area. Nothing fancy, but consistent. And in this heat, consistent beats intense every single time.

Hydration is the Actual Workout

I used to treat water as something I drank when I felt thirsty. Big mistake, especially in summer. By the time you feel thirsty in this heat, you're already mildly dehydrated. Now I start my morning with two full glasses of water before I even look at my phone. I carry a bottle everywhere. I've also started adding a pinch of rock salt and a few drops of lemon to my afternoon water, basically a homemade electrolyte drink that costs almost nothing. Coconut water a couple of times a week has been genuinely helpful too. My energy levels in the evenings are noticeably better since I got serious about this.

💧 Key reminder: In Delhi's June heat, your body can lose a lot of water just sitting in a non-AC room. Don't wait to feel thirsty, drink small amounts consistently throughout the day. Dehydration hits fast and feels awful.

Indoor Options That Don't Require a Gym Membership

On days when even 6 AM feels too hot, or when the air quality is bad, I've switched fully to indoor workouts. No gym needed. A 20-minute bodyweight routine in my room: squats, push-ups, lunges, planks. I follow along with free YouTube videos, which honestly keeps me more accountable than working out alone. The key is keeping the fan on full speed and keeping it short but focused. Thirty minutes indoors beats zero minutes because the weather won. Every time.
This summer has honestly taught me more about discipline than any other season. When conditions are easy, staying fit is easy. When it's 44°C outside and your body is begging you to just lie flat under the ceiling fan, that's when the habit actually gets built.

So, How are you all keeping up with health and fitness in this peak summer?
