The Diary Game: 27th July, 2026. The Farm and Band Training

Good evening, guys. How are you all doing? How was your day? I hope you had a great day. I want to share how my day went. It was really a stressful day. I woke up very early, around 6:00 AM. I brushed my teeth, said my prayers, and headed to the farm to spray my soybeans. I arrived at the farm by 7:40 AM and mixed the herbicide with the pre-mixer to start spraying where I planted the soybeans.

I started working, and by 10:00 AM I took a break to have breakfast on the farm. After breakfast, I continued spraying until 1:00 PM when I finished.

I rushed back home so I could prepare for a training course. We started the Boys Brigade Nigeria training today, and we were expected to report to the camp venue by 3:00 PM. I got home by 1:00 PM, took my bath, and started packing my things for the course. By 2:00 PM I was done with my preparations and headed to the camp venue. I arrived at the camp venue by 2:46 PM. I saw some other campers who had arrived earlier, but the course was still on hold because registration hadn’t started yet. I think the people in charge of registration were still putting things in order. So we sat down and were discussing. We waited for more than 3 to 4 hours before registration finally started.

After registration was done, the Ban Master came in and addressed all the participants. He went over the dos and don’ts, and the rules and regulations of the Ban course. He pleaded with and advised all participants to be law-abiding and to stay focused so we could get the knowledge expected from the course. After that, he handed out the program that would serve as our course guide. Then we started with the first lecture, which was titled “Music.” The instructor in charge came in and delivered the lecture, and we learned a lot from it. After the lecture, we had a break for dinner. Participants went out to eat, and later it was time for practicals. The participants were divided into groups. The groups were divided into the percussion instrumentalists, the wind instrumentalists, and the drum major group. Each group was assigned an instructor, and that instructor was in charge of the group. Throughout the night, the instructors assigned to each group started teaching the practicals for their instruments. I was lucky to be an instructor for the course, and I was teaching trombone. I had 20 students learning trombone with me. It wasn’t easy teaching the practicals on the trombone, but I thank God I did my best. I started my practical class with my students, and most of them were still beginners. They had never played a trombone before, so it was more difficult for me because I had to start from the basics. We started with learning the keys: key F, key E flat, and key B flat. Then we practiced solfa, Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do, on each key.

After some time, I noticed that their sound started improving. By 12:00 AM the course was closed. We call it “lights out.” At that time, all participants are required to retire to bed. So by 12:00 AM, everyone went to sleep. By 5:00 AM the bugle sounded, and everyone woke up and came out for morning devotion. After the morning devotion, the participants were told to get ready for morning exercise. They were advised to change into sportswear. They did the exercise and got back after 1 hour 30 minutes. When they returned, they were given a break to bath and have breakfast. After that, the bugle sounded again and they were told to get their instruments. The participants were then divided into their usual groups: the percussion group, the wind instrumental group, and the drum major group. The practicals began properly. During the practicals, participants who made mistakes were given punishment. If a participant made a mistake, the instructor would instruct them to lift their instrument on their head and run up and down the camp venue. This act disciplined the participants so they would not repeat the same mistake when playing next time. The practicals went on for about 3 hours.

By 11:00 AM the bugle sounded and all participants were expected to move back into the church for the second lecture, which was on Music Science. The instructor came in and delivered the lecture. Most of the participants gained a lot, especially on how to communicate while in a marching band. The lecture lasted for 2 hours. After that, participants were given a short break to have lunch and rest a little. By 2:00 PM the bugle sounded again and they were asked to come out with their instruments for the second practical. It went well. The boys were improving and learning the best they could. By 4:00 PM the practical class ended and the bugle sounded. The Bandmaster addressed them and advised them to remain focused, well-behaved, and to abide by the rules and regulations of the course. They were given another break to rest. By 6:00 PM they had another lecture that lasted for 2 hours. By 8:00 PM the bugle sounded and they went for dinner and to take their bath. The bugle call came up again by 8:00 PM for their last lecture. That lecture lasted for 1 hour, and after that it was lights out. Guys, I’m so tired. My day was so stressful today.
