Teuku Umar University Senate Names Three Candidates for Rector for the 2026–2030 Period

The Open Senate Meeting of Teuku Umar University (UTU) officially named three candidates for rector for the 2026–2030 period after completing the selection process in the Senate Meeting Room on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

The selection process involved four prospective candidates presenting their vision, mission, and work plans to senate members in an open senate meeting.

The four prospective candidates who participated in the selection process were Prof. Dr. Ir. Dahlan Abdullah, S.T., M.Kom., IPU., ASEAN Eng. from Malikussaleh University, and three candidates from Syiah Kuala University: Dr. Ir. Irwansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPM; Prof. Dr. Iskandar AS., S.Pd., M.App.Ling; and Prof. Dr. Nyak Amir, S.Pd., M.Pd.

Following the presentation, the agenda continued with a 60-minute question-and-answer session and in-depth discussion to examine the candidates' work programs.

Entering the main stage, the Teuku Umar University Senate, chaired by Basri, SH., MH., held a closed-door meeting to conduct the vote. This mechanism refers to Regulation of the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education Number 19 of 2017 and several UTU Senate Regulations of 2026 concerning the procedures and rules for rector elections.

In the first round of voting, Prof. Dr. Nyak Amir led with 14 votes. Followed by Dr. Ir. Irwansyah, who received 4 votes. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dahlan Abdullah and Prof. Dr. Iskandar AS were both unvoted. Due to a tie for third place, the committee conducted a special revote for the two candidates in accordance with applicable regulations.

The results of the revote showed that Prof. Dr. Iskandar AS received 16 votes, while Prof. Dr. Ir. Dahlan Abdullah received 2 votes. Based on the final results, the Senate named three rector candidates in order of ranking: Prof. Dr. Nyak Amir in first place, Dr. Ir. Irwansyah in second place, and Prof. Dr. Iskandar AS in third place.

These three names will then be sent to the ministerial level for the final selection phase. In the final phase, the candidates will undergo a direct interview with the Minister. The selected rector will be determined based on a composition of votes consisting of 65 percent of the University Senate's votes and 35 percent of the Minister's votes.

The Chair of the Teuku Umar University Rector Selection Committee, Dr. Teuku Alamsyah, SKM, MPH, stated that the entire series of activities proceeded orderly and transparently.
