Africans Against Africans: What Is Really Happening in South Africa?

Recently, there are some sad videos have seen online of south Africans going from street to street stopping other Africans like Ghana, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and others, asking them questions and telling them to go back to their country and fix it. They call this; the clean up exercise.

Some foreign shop owners are have also been warned to close their businesses. This situation is not new. It has happened before in south Africa. What is going on in south Africa now is just another rise of that same problem. But why always like this??.

South Africans are facing some economic challenges in their country. As many of them do not have jobs to take care of their families. Because of this, some of them believe foreigners in their country are the reasons for their problems. They feel foreigners are taking their job opportunities and running many small businesses in their communities.

Another issue is crime. Some of them people believe that foreigners are involved in illegal activities even though there is no clear proof of this. These beliefs has increased anger and tension in some areas. There is also a political side to this issues. As elections get closer, some selfish political groups want to use the situation to gain support. They speak strongly against foreigners and blame them for their unemployment and hardship. And when people hear this, especially the ones struggling, it becomes easy to believe. Because of this some protest are now happening with some groups calling foreigners to leave the country.

This has created fear amongst many Africans living in south Africa. However, not all south Africans support this movement. Some of them are speaking against this and calling out for peace and unity, but right now, the tension is growing in some places because there is even a plan for a big national shutdown on the 4th of may. And the people behind this are demanding that all foreigners whether you are documented or not be returned to their home countries with immediate effect.

Is this not the same South Africa that other countries like Ghana, Nigeria and others joined hands together to save from the apatide regime. Have they forgotten or their father's did not tell them. How come you people make your fellow African brothers and sisters the problem, when we all know the real problem.

Now Ghanaians are getting upset also requesting that south Africans in their country should leave. Believe me, this is not going down well if not properly handled and thanks to Ghana president who has taken a bold step in reaching out to South African president on this issue.
