Character education is education that prioritizes instilling religious, moral, social, and cooperative values ​​in children. Character education is the initial foundation that must be built so that other general education can run properly.

Character education at the elementary level, in this case elementary school (SD), is crucial for every educator to develop. By instilling and building a foundation of morals, ethics, and integrity at the elementary level, it will help students become individuals with noble character, discipline, and responsibility.

Character education at the elementary level plays a crucial role in shaping children's personalities. This is because at this stage, children are in a very critical period of development, where moral and ethical values ​​can be firmly embedded. Thus, through character education, students are taught all the noble values ​​of personality.

In the school environment, teachers are the primary figures in instilling and teaching character education to children. Likewise, within the family and community, parents are undoubtedly the ones most responsible for instilling these values ​​in their children.

Because without good character, children certainly won't study diligently, won't respect their teachers and parents, and will disrupt classmates, among other negative consequences.

We often hear news about education. Recently, we even saw high school students disrespecting their teachers and even making them cry in class during class. Why does this happen, and are teachers not teaching character education at the elementary level?

The answer is, every teacher at the elementary level certainly performs their duties well, namely instilling character values ​​in their students. However, students spend more time with their families and their surroundings, perhaps with their parents, their neighborhood, and their social circles, which is why this can happen.

Thus, character development in children, especially at the elementary level, not only has a positive impact in the school and home environment but also on them, where they can apply what they have learned to face future challenges.
