The July Contest #2 by sduttaskitchen: Overcome the Fear of Failure!
Everyone has some type of failure in their life at various points. Young or old, rich or poor, educated or not, it doesn't matter. We all have made some mistakes in our lives. Some people don't do well in school, others don't do well in business, others don't do well in relationships, and others don't do well in their own life. Unfortunately, many people think that failure is the end of the road. When they fail, they are afraid of making another attempt, fearing to be disappointed again, risking their being judged by others. The fear I think is one of the biggest things that can hinder us in our success. Failure is not the end, it's not a reason to give up, it's a chance to get better; to get wiser; to get stronger; to get ready for the next thing that is going to come.
Do you think the most important problem people face in life is how to deal with failure? Your viewpoint!
Absolutely, I strongly feel that one of the biggest problems that people have in life is managing failure. Failure can impact our feelings, self-assurance, even our dreams. If a person tries very hard for something and fails to get what he/she wants, it is natural to feel sad, frustrated or weak. After a single failure, some people give up and quit. Others start to think that they aren't special, that success is for others.
I have also suffered failure in my life. At times I really thought I would do better after hard work, but we have not got the outcome that I had hoped for. Initially I was disappointed and thought I wasn't good enough. After giving it some thought, however, I realized that failure was teaching me the important lessons. It made me see the things that I need to improve and made me more determined. I believe that those tough times that I went through have strengthened me and made me more confident today.
I also think that failure management is tough as it is easy to talk about success but not so easy to discuss the struggles of people that make it to success. We do see the final achievement—the many failed attempts to achieve it are not seen. This can make people feel that they are the only one facing similar difficulties in life, although failure is a common occurrence.
Are you in agreement with the idea that failure occurs at the same time both inside the home and outside? Your perception!
Yes, I agree that failure does occur in both indoors and out.
Indoor failure is the problems that we face in our own lives. Some of these are failure to pass exams, poor financial choices, family disputes, lack of self-confidence or not setting and reaching personal targets. Sometimes these failures are kept to ourselves, but can have mental and emotional impact. A lot of people go through these issues but don't say anything about it.
Failure in the outdoors will occur when other people are present to see our disappointment. This can be as simple as the loss of a job opportunity, not succeeding in business, not winning a competition or being rejected in interviews. There can be a higher level of pain when the failure is public since the fear of embarrassment or criticism can be present. These experiences also offer us learning opportunities that can help us get better, however.
Failure is not me, failure is not the end of the world, it should not be private or public. Rather, it should inspire us to take the time to gain knowledge, expand our horizons, and equip ourselves for the next opportunity. Failure is an experience that every successful person has had in some form or another before they became successful.
What is the best way to deal with failure, and then move past it? What are some suggestions you have?
Failure is a natural part of life, and there are many practical approaches to dealing with failure and quelling the fear that surrounds it.
First, to accept failure not deny it. When we accept we are thinking clearly about what has occurred, without beating ourselves up over it. We can't change what has happened but we can learn from what went wrong.
Second, it would be good to discover what worked and what didn't in each failure. All errors are educative. It is better to ask, 'What can I learn from this experience?', rather than 'Why did this happen to me?'. This positive attitude enables us to grow.
The other advice that is important is to not get impatient and to try over and over. Failing is very common when it comes to success. From the pages of history, many well known inventors, athletes, entrepreneurs and leaders have experienced a number of failures before reaching their glory days. Successful people tend to persist, and so do the ones who succeed.
It's also good to get counsel from those you trust. Support from family, teachers, mentors and good friends can be helpful and encouraging. Other people's point of view can enable us to see a solution that we could not see by ourselves.
An increase in self-confidence is critical, too. We ought to keep in mind our strength rather than our weakness and not forget to celebrate our small successes. As we build our confidence with these smaller goals, we can tackle larger ones with greater confidence.
Realistic expectation can also minimize fears of failure. Sometimes big goals may seem difficult, but once we break it down into small steps, it becomes easy to achieve and motivates us to keep going till we reach the target.
Last but not least, as a Christian, I feel the importance of prayer in overcoming failure. When we trust God, we will have peace during difficult times and we will be reminded that every challenge is for a reason. Prayer is what sustains us when life gets hard, helps us to have wisdom and strength as we press on.
Conclusion
Success is not about not failing, it's about not giving up after failure. Failure is not an exception to anyone, but not everyone learns from failure. Those who come out on top are typically those who don't give up when disappointed and suffering setbacks.
I don't think fear of failure is the reason for not doing what you want to do. Rather we should embrace our failures, glean lessons, strive harder and keep believing in ourselves. Each challenge equips us for future opportunities! We can do all these things with determination, patience, learning and relying on God—we can become stronger people and we can overcome the fear of failure. Failure is not our destiny, but our reaction to failure is.
