"Self-sacrifice" is a deliberate choice for me to give up something valuable such as my time, comfort, resources, or my personal desires for the benefit of someone else or a greater cause. Self-sacrifice reflects empathy, love, duty, or moral conviction. It is also prioritising something and not about losing something.

Well to me I don't seek such because I believe that genuine self-sacrifice is usually done without one expecting something in return instead it is rooted in sincerity.

The truth is as human beings what we desire to be is just the thing that when a person consistently sacrifices for you and receives no acknowledge the person may begin to feel undervalued and think of stopping, but the problem is when self-sacrifice is done mainly to gain control or recognition.
