A Sweet Relief.
I've never been so worried about something like I did just a recently...Please ask me what the worry was about, you would be surprise to find out it something very simple, well I can say it is now because I found out it is but before my discovery was a serious worry on how to fix it.
Recently I started getting worry over sorting out our utility bills, electricity bill to be precise. We use a prepaid meter. We moved into the house we now live a year ago and I was just so fortunate to have a very kind and generous neighbours. They were older couples anyway, we are the younger couple just starting life.
I believe one of their way of encouraging and supporting us even without our consent was to take up the responsibility of paying electricity bill for us all. So we lived like having light was a default package that came with our rent. They never bordered us, even the day I had to meet my neighbour to ask that I help with it, he declined.
But this is not the gist because that neighbour has just moved out to their new apartment. Now the challenge is this, all the while he was paying the bill, I had never for once inquired how he goes about paying the bill, I mean where he goes to pay and generate a token for the prepaid meter we use.
You can call me old school at this point and I don't mind, I know you're probably thinking, who doesn't know where and how to pay for electricity bill, especially for prepaid. Well, don't blame me, I had always lived in an apartment where we get to pay NEPA official, now Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) cash at hand, they come demanding for it when it's due.
But with prepaid, you've got to find them yourself and pay, lest there won't be electricity for you. The slightest glimpse of how I think that neighbour of mine does it is that he goes to one of their offices to make payment, although I wasn't sure which it was. Now that they are gone and we are close to being cut off from electricity supply, I began to worry.
You might want to ask, why didn't you call him to ask how he does it, well, I didn't want to look like a novice or some inexperienced and backward folk in a world that is fast advancing, so I wanted to avoid the shame that would come with such enquiry, hahahahah 😃... But when carefully considered, this is "pride", a pride I should have swallowed to get knowledge...lols.
While I was just trying to figure out how to go about it, it occurred to me to ask A.I how to go about it in the most easiest way. Guess what, A.I gave me some options which also included going to the power holding office. I obviously didn't want to go to the office, they might demand for things I do not really know will be needed and that would make me look perfectly like a fool before them which then puts me in the same situation I'm trying to run away from.
Finally, a solution came by way of remembrance, I recalled that a popular mobile app used here in Nigeria can pay utility bills. This immediately feels like the perfect solution I've been looking for even before making an attempt, I was just praying it turns out exactly the way it's being advertised.
I asked A.I how to use that app to facilitate such payments and it did. I then attempted with just a little amount to see if it goes through and boom! It went. Oh my! I got so excited that I could finally accomplish it without even stepping out of my house or visiting any office nor spending on fare to go get it done.
I smiled and said to myself, life is indeed good with technology, that we do not have to go do somethings the manual or archaic way, just with few clicks, you can get things done. This brought me so much relief. Now I have been able to recharge the prepaid meter and this would be the method to be adopted going forward.
Maybe if my neighbour knew this easy and fast method, he wouldn't waste his time, energy and resources going to an office obviously far from home to go recharge a prepaid meter for us to enjoy electricity. Technology has just taken care of all those and I'm grateful for the gift of technology. Now you understand what the sweet relief is all about... smiles.
