Ho seguito, con sgomento, la notizia della tragedia toccata a 5 sub italiani nelle acque maldiviane.
Conosco quelle acque, ci ho lavorato, conosco quel mare, mi sono immerso spesso sia con le bombole sia in snorkeling.
Premetto che con le bombole non sono mai andato sotto i 30 metri, in quel mare non ho mai ritenuto necessario andare oltre, quello che vedi a 20/30 metri e' praticamente uguale a quello che vedi a 60.
Poi non ero un subacqueo, lavoravo in villaggio e ogni tanto mi divertivo ad esplorare quel fantastico mare.

Ho letto molte supposizioni sul cosa possa essere successo, e' vero che si trattava di sub esperti ma col mare, cosi' come con la montagna, non si deve mai scherzare ne' tantomeno dare nulla per scontato.
Ho letto come la tragedia sia avvenuta in una grotta, ecco le grotte le ho sempre evitate, un po' perche' non sai mai cosa trovi, poi perche' mentre gli squali si fanno normalmente i fatti loro in nostra presenza, diventano pericolosi se ci sei tu fra dove sono loro e l'uscita della grotta.

Secondo me si e' trattato di una serie di concause di sfiga una attaccata all'altra.
Era gente esperta e quedto non sempre è un bene.
Un po' di imprudenza, troppa confidenza, quella sensazione che conosco bene di poter fare tutto quello che si vuole, tanta sfiga e le cose che quando devono girare male....girano male.
Forse non sapremo mai cosa e' successo, e' un problema anche solo recuperare i corpi, ci ha lasciato la pelle un sub maldiviano, e questo la dice lunga sul dove erano andati a finire.
Che tragedia!

I followed the news of the tragedy that befell five Italian divers in the Maldivian waters with dismay.
I know those waters; I've worked there, I know that sea, I've dived often, both scuba diving and snorkeling.
I'll start by saying that I've never dived below 30 meters with scuba diving; in that sea, I've never felt the need to go deeper. What you see at 20/30 meters is practically the same as what you see at 60.
Besides, I wasn't a diver; I worked in the resort and occasionally enjoyed exploring that fantastic sea.

I've read many speculations about what might have happened. It's true that they were expert divers, but with the sea, as with the mountains, you should never joke or take anything for granted. I read that the tragedy occurred in a cave. I've always avoided caves, partly because you never know what you'll find, and partly because while sharks normally mind their own business in our presence, they become dangerous if you're between them and the cave exit.

I think it was a series of unlucky circumstances, one compounded by another.
They were experienced people, and that's not always a good thing.
A bit of recklessness, too much confidence, that familiar feeling of being able to do whatever you want, a lot of bad luck, and things that go wrong when they're supposed to...go wrong.
Perhaps we'll never know what happened. Even recovering the bodies is a problem. A Maldivian diver lost his life, and that says a lot about where they ended up.
What a tragedy!
