Tre exchange, BitMart, BitMEX ed EXMO, hanno annunciato la chiusura delle proprie attività o l'avvio di un processo di uscita dal mercato.

Per gli utenti non significa necessariamente perdere i propri fondi: le chiusure sono state annunciate con anticipo e sono previste procedure per consentire il prelievo delle criptovalute.
Però meglio non lasciare i propri asset sugli exchange più del necessario.

Meglio comunque non aspettare l'ultimo momento.

Io uso BitMart da parecchi anni, mi sono sempre trovata bene, mi spiace questa chiusura. E adesso toccherà anche a me togliere i fondi, pochi per fortuna, perché a causa dell'entrata in vigore del MiCA avevo già iniziato ad abbandonare gli exchange non in regola.

Ma perché stanno scomparendo alcune piattaforme che fino a pochi anni fa sembravano solide?

Le ragioni possono essere diverse. Sicuramente le regolamentazioni sempre più severe non aiutano, mettiamoci la concorrenza dei grandi exchange che concentrano gran parte dei volumi di trading, e per concludere anche costi operativi in aumento con margini di profitto sempre più ridotti.

In pratica, il settore si sta consolidando e sopravvivere è diventato più difficile per gli operatori più piccoli o meno competitivi.

E qui ci sta proprio bene: "Not your keys, not your coins."

È vero gli exchange sono strumenti utili per acquistare, vendere o fare trading, ma quando si decide di detenere criptovalute nel lungo periodo, sarebbe meglio poter mantenere il controllo diretto dei propri fondi, come con i wallet decentralizzati.

Certo, questo significa anche assumersi una responsabilità maggiore: perdere le proprie chiavi private significa perdere l'accesso alle proprie criptovalute.

Che preferite? CEX o DEX?

Three crypto exchanges, BitMart, BitMEX, and EXMO, have announced that they are shutting down or beginning an orderly exit from the market.

This doesn't necessarily mean users will lose their funds. The closures have been announced well in advance, and procedures are in place to allow users to withdraw their cryptocurrencies.

However, it's always better not to keep your assets on an exchange longer than necessary.

In any case, it's best not to wait until the last minute.

I've been using BitMart for several years and I've always had a good experience with it, so I'm sorry to see it shutting down. I'll have to withdraw my funds as well - fortunately, I don't have much left there - because when the MiCA regulation came into force, I had already started moving away from exchanges that were not compliant.

But why are platforms that seemed solid just a few years ago now disappearing?

There are several possible reasons. Stricter regulations certainly don't help. On top of that, large exchanges now dominate most of the trading volume, while operating costs continue to rise and profit margins become increasingly smaller.

In short, the crypto exchange industry is consolidating, making it much harder for smaller or less competitive platforms to survive.

And this is where the famous saying fits perfectly:

"Not your keys, not your coins."

Exchanges are useful for buying, selling, and trading cryptocurrencies, but if you plan to hold your crypto for the long term, it's generally better to keep direct control of your funds by using a self-custody wallet.

Of course, this also means taking on greater responsibility: if you lose your private keys, you lose access to your cryptocurrencies.
