E se i miner Bitcoin preferissero l'AI? / What If Bitcoin Miners Preferred AI? [ITA/ENG]
Ciao a tutti amici e amiche di Italy e di Steemit.
.Vi siete mai chiesti se, per alcuni miner, l'intelligenza artificiale diventasse più redditizia del mining di Bitcoin?
Io me lo sto chiedendo da quando ho letto gli ultimi dati sulla quota dei ricavi dei miner proveniente dalle fee, vicina ai minimi degli ultimi dieci anni.
Parliamo di appena lo 0,69% dei ricavi dei miner Bitcoin.
Il loro guadagno proviene quindi principalmente dai nuovi BTC creati con ogni blocco.
Ma oggi i miner devono fare i conti con costi energetici elevati, concorrenza e un prezzo di Bitcoin molto più basso rispetto ai massimi.
E qui inizia ad entrare in gioco l'AI.
Le grandi società di mining possiedono già le infrastrutture, l'energia e una grande capacità di calcolo, necessari per lo sviluppo del settore dell'intelligenza artificiale.
Per alcune di queste aziende potrebbe diventare, quindi, più conveniente utilizzare queste risorse per i data center dedicati all'AI invece di continuare a minare Bitcoin.
Tranquilli, non è necessariamente un problema per Bitcoin.
Questo perché Bitcoin ha un meccanismo chiamato difficulty adjustment, che permette alla rete di adattarsi alle variazioni della potenza di calcolo.
In parole semplici, se la potenza di calcolo della rete diminuisce, nel tempo il sistema riduce la difficoltà necessaria per trovare un blocco.
Insomma, se alcuni miner escono, Bitcoin non si spegne.
Un problema potrebbe però sorgere se una parte sempre maggiore della potenza di calcolo finisse nelle mani di pochi grandi operatori.
La rete diventerebbe più concentrata.
E tornando all'AI, se dovesse diventare un'alternativa economicamente più interessante per chi oggi gestisce enormi infrastrutture di mining, dovremmo iniziare a tenere d'occhio questo fenomeno.
Non perché l'AI "ucciderà" Bitcoin.
Ma perché potrebbe cambiare chi sceglie di proteggere la rete e quanto questa potenza rimane distribuita.
E secondo me, è una cosa che non dovremmo sottovalutare.

Have you ever wondered if, for some miners, artificial intelligence could become more profitable than Bitcoin mining?
I've been thinking about this since I read the latest data on the share of miners' revenue coming from transaction fees, which is close to its lowest level in the last ten years.
We're talking about just 0.69% of Bitcoin miners' revenue.
Their income therefore comes mainly from newly created BTC with each block.
But today, miners have to deal with high energy costs, competition, and a Bitcoin price that is much lower than its all-time highs.
And this is where AI comes into the picture.
Large mining companies already have the infrastructure, energy, and significant computing power needed for the development of the artificial intelligence sector.
For some of these companies, it could therefore become more profitable to use these resources for AI-dedicated data centers instead of continuing to mine Bitcoin.
Don't worry, this isn't necessarily a problem for Bitcoin.
Bitcoin has a mechanism called the difficulty adjustment, which allows the network to adapt to changes in computing power.
In simple terms, if the network's computing power decreases, over time the system reduces the difficulty required to find a block.
In other words, if some miners leave, Bitcoin doesn't shut down.
However, a problem could arise if an increasingly large share of the computing power ended up in the hands of a few large operators.
The network would become more concentrated.
And going back to AI, if it becomes a more profitable alternative for companies currently operating huge mining infrastructures, we should start keeping an eye on this trend.
Not because AI will "kill" Bitcoin.
But because it could change who chooses to secure the network and how distributed that computing power remains.
And in my opinion, that's something we shouldn't underestimate.
