Rainforest biodiversity will start growing again as soon as we stop cutting down trees and using land for agriculture and livestock farming..

Rainforests are among the most important environments on the planet for biodiversity: two-thirds of the vertebrate species on Earth live in these areas, which also host three-quarters of all tree species.

This is why the fact that they are cut down to make way for agricultural land is so serious: since we began to exploit them intensively, we have made more than 50% of them disappear.

A study published in Nature shows that biodiversity in these forests is resilient.

The study assessed the "regeneration gradient," or how quickly and to what extent forests recover when human activity ceases.

Over the course of 30 years, these rainforests have regenerated 90% of their biodiversity, returning to a (nearly) natural state within a human generation.

If left alone, rainforests therefore have a rapid capacity for regeneration. This is why protecting them is important.
