SLC-S31W4 -"My taste My Culture ; Street Foods.
Hello friends!
Before we begin, I want to sincerely appreciate the Steemit team once again for this amazing opportunity. Thank you for building a platform where culture, creativity, and everyday life can be shared through food.
Welcome to Week 4 of this exciting journey: “My Taste, My Culture” (Expressing Culture Through Taste).
🎉 What is this week about? — Street Food Culture.
In the previous weeks, we explored identity, heritage, cultural diversity, and festive celebrations through food.
This week, we go closer to home…
👉 The foods we eat every day. The foods on our streets. The foods that define our lifestyle.
🌍 Street foods are more than just quick meals or snacks. They represent:
- Our daily survival and hustle
- Simplicity and convenience
- Local flavors and traditions
- Community life and social interaction
These are the foods we enjoy:
- On the roadside
- At local markets
- During busy mornings
- As quick and affordable meals
They reflect how we live, work, and connect with one another.
🍛 My Street Food
For this week, I present a popular and loved street food in my culture:
👉 Akara (Bean Cakes)
Akara is a deep-fried bean cake made from blended peeled beans, pepper, onions, and spices. It is commonly sold by roadside vendors and enjoyed by many Nigerians, especially in the mornings and evenings.
It is often eaten with:
- Pap (Akamu)
- Bread
- Custard
In my culture, Akara represents:
- Hard work and daily hustle – It’s commonly eaten by workers and students on the go.
- Affordability – Its cheap and accessible to almost everyone.
- Community life – people gather around vendors to buy and interact.
- Tradition – It is a timeless street food passed down through generations.
👉 This is not just food—it is a symbol of our everyday life.
Poetic Cultural Cliché

At dawns first light, hot oil sizzles and golden balls rises, a beautiful sight we behold. From humble beans to a cherished bite, Akara feeds our hustle, morning and night.

When talking about food and culture, there's an interesting story to go home with.
Looking at this, at least what we ate, some time tells people where we come from, what we like and also our customs about food.
I really fall in love with this article.
Thanks for sharing.
