Prepare a meal (not snacks) that represents your roots and identity and show us the recipes and procedure of preparation.

Porridge Yam is the meal that represents my roots. I am from the Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria, where porridge Yam is a meal that represents my roots and identity.

The recipes for preparing porridge Yam are: yam, palm oil, dry fish, vegetable leaf, onions, fresh pepper, salt, and seasoning. The procedure of preparation is very simple.

First, you will have to peel and slice the yams into smaller pieces, wash and slice the vegetable leaf, and then put the slice yam into a cooking pot and allow them to cool for a few minutes, and then add all other ingredients to taste, stir, and allow to cook and get done.

Why is this food important to your people? When is it traditionally eaten? (Is it festive, ceremonial, daily, or symbolic?). What does it represent culturally? How does it reflect the lifestyle, values, and history of your people?

This food is important to my people because yams are something that is planted seasonally and celebrated for harvesting them yearly. Yam is not just a common food to my people is a food that's well cherished and porridge Yam is what my people usually make during the New Yam Festival.

My people like yams because they can eat yams in many ways, such as a pounded yam, fried or boiled yams, or even the porridge yams that are best known to people. The history of porridge Yam can be traced back to the past when my people started celebrating the New Yam Festival.

What memories do you personally associate with it and the price of the ingredients in steem and local currency?

The memories that I personally associate with porridge Yam is every new yam festival is usually the first week of September. During such times of celebration I and my love one's usually travel home to celebrate new yam festival which is fun and entertaining bringing families and loved ones together. The price of yam is varies according to size and location, but a single tuber of yams is usually sold for around ₦1,500.

Present your recipe beautifully with a name tag and date and a selfie

Above is the presentation of my recipe which I forgot to take a selfie picture with it or add a tag with my username to it, but my first picture clearly shows me at the time I was cooking the yams.
