Watch any movie that speaks of success beyond money and fame and Respond to the following ;

For today's competition, I have chosen the film
"Swades". In this movie, Shah Rukh Khan plays the lead male protagonist, while Gayatri Joshi portrays the female lead. Produced by Ashutosh Gowariker and Ronnie Screwvala, this film is truly beautiful—much like its title, Swades, which translates to "one's own country."

The story begins with Mohan Bhargav, a NASA scientist who currently holds a prestigious position in the USA. He lacks nothing in terms of wealth or material comforts and leads a luxurious life. However, despite possessing all this, he remains restless. Unable to find true inner peace, he decides to return to his home country, India, in search of the foster mother—his "Amma"—who had raised him during his childhood.

While searching for her, he arrives at a village where he meets a young woman named Geeta—an educated and sensible individual. Mohan observes the villagers enduring immense hardship: water shortages, power outages, social discrimination, and various other afflictions. Witnessing all this leaves him deeply disturbed. Moved by their plight, Mohan feels an overwhelming urge to do something for the villagers.

Mohan reflects on how many Indians go abroad to pursue their education and earn wealth, yet fail to contribute anything to their own nation. Consequently, he makes a pivotal decision: he will not return to the USA, but will instead remain in India to dedicate himself to serving his country. In the village, he takes the initiative to arrange for an electricity supply; he establishes a hydroelectric project, bringing electric power to the village for the very first time.

Geeta, too, was a young woman deeply rooted in her cultural traditions. As Mohan continued to undertake such commendable work for the villagers, he and Geeta gradually grew closer. Their bond eventually blossomed into love, and in this manner, Mohan remained in India, fulfilling his commitment to serve his homeland.

How did the movie define success?

In this film, success is defined as This film places a far greater emphasis on inner contentment—rising above mere material wealth—and on the profound love one holds for one's country. It illustrates how Mohan, despite having amassed such immense wealth, finds no true satisfaction in it, remaining restless until he finally succeeds in finding his beloved "Amma." Whenever he visits his village, witnessing its various problems, he becomes deeply concerned about its welfare. This film successfully portrays the spirit of social welfare—prioritizing it over monetary gain—and the achievement of progress for the village.

Mohan emerges as a hero in the eyes of all the villagers, earning their immense respect. Being an educated man, Mohan soon became the go-to person for the villagers whenever they faced a problem. Mohan took upon himself the task of awakening and empowering the entire village community.

Which character had a life you admired most?

I truly admired Mohan's character because, had he wished to, he had two distinct options available to him. He could have easily returned to his urban life to enjoy a lucrative job and a luxurious lifestyle, thereby making his own life incredibly comfortable. Instead, he chose patriotism over material wealth and undertook remarkable initiatives for the betterment of his society.

Mohan dedicated his intellect and education to the service of his country. As a result, electricity reached the village, and the people became more aware; the arrival of electricity brought happiness and relief to countless lives. Mohan dismantled the barriers of "us versus them" and the prejudices of social hierarchy, ultimately dedicating his entire life to the service of the villagers and to resolving the problems plaguing their community.

What lesson about success did you take away?

The lesson regarding success that I learned from this film is that money is not everything. It is not guaranteed that the mere acquisition of wealth will bring us true satisfaction; rather, that sense of mental fulfillment can also be attained through acts of social welfare. However, the act of renouncing wealth—and abandoning such a life of luxury—to embrace the simplicity of village life is, undoubtedly, an incredibly difficult undertaking.

Amidst these very hardships, Mohan chose to remain in the village; by enduring those struggles himself, he was able to accomplish extraordinary things for the villagers. Mohan's education and learning served his country well, enabling him to bring numerous successes to his village and steer it firmly onto the path of progress.

If every individual, after acquiring a good education, were to dedicate themselves to serving their own country, then absolutely nothing could stand in the way of that nation's success and growth.
