SC-S31/W2 – Movie Magic | Movies that Redefine Success (The Pursuit of Happyness)

Hello steemians,
Introduction
A lot of people think that success is something that can be seen and measured by money, social status, fame, or the admiration of others. Because of this, they often picture successful people as those who live in beautiful homes, wear nice clothes, and seem to have complete control over their lives. The Pursuit of Happyness changed how I think about this idea completely. Instead of showing success as a glamorous goal, it shows it as a painful, silent, and deeply human struggle. This movie taught me that success isn't always about being at the top of society or getting recognition from the world. Sometimes it's about having the strength to keep going when life pushes you to your lowest point and tries, again and again, to break your spirit.
1. How did the movie define success?
In this movie, success is not based on money or career success. Instead, it is based on overcoming despair, hopelessness, and pain. At first, Chris Gardner doesn't seem like a strong or successful person. In fact, society rejects him, stability leaves him, and he is humiliated by his situation, he has to go through a lot of pain while also taking care of his young son. He experiences homelessness, financial collapse, emotional exhaustion, and repeated disappointment, yet the movie makes it clear that his true success begins long before he earns money or gets a prestigious job.

It begins the moment he refuses to surrender to misery, the moment he decides that pain will not destroy his dignity, and the moment he continues fighting even when he has no guarantee that life will ever reward him. In that sense, the movie defines success as the courage to preserve one’s hope, one’s values, and one’s love in the middle of overwhelming difficulty, because even before Chris becomes financially stable, he has already achieved something extraordinary, he has survived without losing himself.
2. Which character had a life you admired most?
The character whose life I admired the most was Chris Gardner, because his story is not admirable simply because he eventually becomes successful, but because of the way he endures suffering with remarkable mental strength, patience, and self-control. What touches me most about him is his sincere and unconditional love for his son, because even when his own life is falling apart, he never stops trying to protect the child emotionally, and he never allows hardship to destroy the tenderness of their relationship.

I also deeply admire his discipline, because despite the chaos around him, despite the fear, the exhaustion, and the humiliation he experiences daily, he continues to show up, continues to work, continues to learn, and continues to believe that a better future is still possible, what makes him even more inspiring is that he suffers without becoming bitter, and that quality is rare, because many people, after facing so much injustice and pain, would become angry at the world, resentful toward others, or defeated inside. Chris Gardner, however, keeps his humanity, his dignity, and his inner faith, and that is why his life is, to me, profoundly admirable.
3. What lesson about success did you take away?
The most important lesson I took away from this movie is that success begins in the mind and in the heart long before it appears in visible reality, because a person first becomes strong, determined, and resilient internally before the world ever sees the results externally. This film taught me that poverty is not the same thing as failure, because lacking money does not mean lacking worth, and going through hard times does not mean that your story is over.
SourceFailure doesn't come from struggling, it comes from deciding to give up on yourself, your future, and your ability to get back up. I also learned that problems can't define the meaning of a person's life unless that person lets them, and that even when you're embarrassed, scared, or unsure, you can still keep your self-respect and move forward with courage. I learned from this movie that success isn't about having more, it's about getting stronger, smarter, and more determined. After all the pain, it's also about being able to look back on your life with pride and say that you didn't let it get to you your identity, your hope, or your dignity.
Conclusion
In the end, The Pursuit of Happyness changes the way we think about success in a powerful and memorable way. It shows that true success is not just having a lot of money, a big house, or a nice suit, it's also about having courage every day, making sacrifices without saying anything, staying strong through hard times, and deciding to keep going when no one else believes in you. This movie taught me that success doesn't always have to be loud or showy. Sometimes it looks like patience, endurance, and quiet resistance. The film's most beautiful message is that purpose had already come into Chris Gardner's heart before money did. True success is not measured only by what a person owns, but by what they survive without losing themselves, and this is why The Pursuit of Happyness is, in my opinion, a movie that truly redefines what it means to succeed.
