The quiet town in Western Nigeria

The story started in a quiet town in Western Nigeria, just days before the country's independence on October 1, 1960. The peace of the town was taken away by the brutal killings of young women. It turned into a fear zone while the British Colonial authorities sought means to fix it before independence day so that the situation does not tarnish the image of the nation.

Inspector Danladi Waziri, a skilled and disciplined police officer is sent to investigate. On his arrival, the town seem quiet and cool but when he begins his work, he realizes that something beneath the seen is going on. The people are hiding secrets and there is a strong tension between tradition and change.

As Danladi Waziri questions the people, both the leaders and suspects, he discovers some atom of silence, fear, and beliefs that makes the investigation difficult. Most of them refuse to speak while some others try to mislead him with their response. The closer he gets to finding the truth, the more dangerous it becomes.

He discovers the murders are not random people, they are connected to other past painful events. Then gradually begins to uncover truths about power, abuse and others. At the same time, Waziri is under pressure from his superior to solve the case quickly. He must have to balance time, and the safety of the people while maintaining focus.

In the end when the truth is finally uncovered, it is shocking and emotional. Justice is achieved but it comes with a deep sense of reflection.

How did the movie define success?

In October 1, success is not shown as fame, wealth, or power, instead the movie shows success through truth, justice, and personal integrity.

Inspector Waziri's mission is not about getting the appraisal. If you see the movie, you will understand that much of his work happens quietly, under pressure and without any reward set for him. What makes him successful is his refusal to ignore the truth even when it is uncomfortable.

As he investigates the murder cases,Waziri faces pressure from superior who wants quick result and resistance from community. It would be easy and fast for him to accept a simple answer or still follow what others expect. But he chooses to dig deeper, stand for justice and question every single thing, even when it reveals some painful secrets.

The film also shows that success can come with emotional weight. Solving the case does not bring celebration, instead reflection. This simply shows that true success is not always happy; it can be difficult but with a meaning.

So I would say that the movie defines success as;

• Doing the right thing even when it feels hard or heavy.
• Standing for truth instead of convenience.
• Choosing integrity over personal gain.

Which character had a life you admired most?

The life of Waziri caught me glued. I wondered how a man could stand for justice at the detriment of his life and family. I ask??? What if his family were killed all in the name of justice, what if he had died? Well, although his family had died earlier. Even with the pain in him, he still brought out himself wholly to seek justice.

All these gave me courage to always stand for what is right even when it feels uncomfortable. Waziri was not in a rush to have results even while under pressure, but he took his time gently untill the whole truth was unfolded.

The hide out for the murderer

I admired him as a true leader, a mentor and even a patriarch. He did so much for the right thing. He knew something was fishy even after questioning the people, he never gave up.

I love his zeal, his motivation, his power and strength.

What lesson about success did you take away?

From the movie, the biggest lesson about success is that, doing what is right matters more than being recognized. True honest is staying honest and committed to your values.

The murderer finally uncovered

Another lesson is that success can be painful but meaningful. Sometimes when the truth is uncovered, it brings sadness instead of joy and happiness but still in the end, there was a success.

Lastly, success requires courage and patience. Waziri could have taken shortcuts but he maintained his steez the hard way.
