My harvest of Melon: Another experience in farming journey
Hello, my wonderful resilient farmers and friends! One of the most satisfying time after planting is harvesting the fruits of our hard work. After weeks of planting and monitoring my melon, I am excited to harvest them now. It may interest you to know that I planted the melon on the same piece of land where I had earlier planted my ginger, but I planted the melon about two months after the ginger. I really needed to make use of every little available space so it was a good way of maximizing the available land while growing two different crops.
Seeing the melon grow from tiny their seeds into mature plants that produced healthy fruits gives me with joy. It reminded and assures me that having patience, being consistent, and proper farm management will always produce good results.
My Experience in Growing Melon
Melon is one of the creeping crops that spreads across the ground as it grows. A few days after I planted them, the seeds germinated and starts to produce healthy green seedlings. As the weeks were passing, its vines became longer and started creeping in different directions and covered a large part of the farmland. The plants develops broad green leaves that helps to capture sunlight for them to grow healthy.
Before the plants stats to produce fruits, the melon plants first developed beautiful yellow flowers. These flowers are very important because they are where pollination would take place. When plants starts to bear flowers, normally bees or other insects will help transfer pollen from the male flowers to the female flowers. Once pollination becomes successful, these female flowers will gradually develop into fruits. This is what happens to melon plants too.
As the fruits continued to grow in size the seeds inside also develops. At first, the seeds will be soft and immature, but as time goes on they become fully formed and hardened. At this stage, every melon farmer patiently waits because the seeds are the main product that will be harvested.
As the melon reaches maturity, the fruits changed appearance, becoming dull in colour and showing signs that they were ready for harvest. I have carefully gathered the mature fruits from the farm, I will open them, and remove the seeds. Later, I will wash the seeds thoroughly to remove the sticky pulp and spread them out to dry properly under the sun. A Proper drying is important because it will help to preserve the seeds and improves their quality for storage or sale.
Harvesting the melon is testimony and reminder that every stage of farming requires patience and attention. It starts from planting to harvesting, when every effort will contribute to the final result.
Although the melon were very small due to lack of enough space to plant more, harvesting my melon was another rewarding experience on this my farming journey. Growing melon alongside my ginger plants allowed me to make better use of my farmland while producing another valuable crop. Every successful harvest I make motivates me to keep learning and improving my farming practices. I look forward to have more better harvests in the future as I continue applying good agricultural practices.
Farming truly require patience and hard work, but the joy of harvesting healthy crops makes every effort worthwhile.
