Nature and Agriculture Contest: Drawing (Edition #9)

Greetings dear friends and steemians. I hope you are all fine as I am. I appreciate @memamun for organising this beautiful contest. In this week's edition, I draw a big hoe which is not part of nature but agriculture-related.

A big hoe is a large-bladed hand tool used for soil cultivation such as making ridges (making furrows), breaking hard soil etc. This tool is made up of a thick metal blade capable of penetrating the soil and a wooden handle. The thick metal blade and the wooden handle are connected to form an angle below ninety degrees (90°) as shown in the image above to enable the farmer to turn the soil easily. This type of hoe is not found everywhere but common in Nasarawa state, Nigeria where I come from. Today, modern Agriculture uses tractors, but the big hoes are also important for small-scale farming.

THE STEPS OF MY DRAWING

Materials For Drawing

• A4 paper
• HB pencil
• 2B pencil
• 5B pencil
• Eraser
• Razor blade
• Brush

Step 1
I drew the wooden handle of the big hoe. Using an HB pencil. The handle has a curved head where the metal will be hooked.

Step 2
I drew the thick metal blade. I also showed the two points where the hook to the wooden handle is connected.

Step 3
I shaded the metal blade using a 2B pencil.

Step 4
I shaded the wooden handle of the hoe using a 2B pencil.

Step 5
I shaded the shadow formed by the hoe using a 5B pencil and lastly, I blended the shading using a brush.
