Hanging Cucumbers makes better vegetables

There's a question I know some might have in their minds and I've made a video just to answer it on Steemit.

Some cucumbers are straight as they should look and some are bent. There's no fact that the bent ones are less healthy but if you go to the market and you were given the two, there's a chance you'll go for the straight bigger ones than the bent ones.

The shape of vegetables in commercial crop farming is caused by the simple fact of gravity. It's not a pest that infected the bent one with a disease.

The cucumbers growing on a flat surface are always pressing against the hard ground during their development. The pressure that is being exerted onto the ground makes the fruit grow in a curved shape, it even resembles a hook.

The dark ground does not let the sun reach the lower part of the skin so white blotches appear on the Cucumbers.

There's a method used with their vines. It's a vertical way of growing them.

The hanging branches of the plants take all the fruits far away enough from the ground. The force of gravity pulls all the cucumbers down, that makes them grow straight. The fact that the Cucumbers are hanging in the air reduces the risk of their skin rotting, plus there's less risk of having worms enter.

Good airflow, force if gravity acting down and less risk of infection from the ground, all of that combined is a higher chance of ending up with healthy, big and fresh cucumbers.

The big green leaves at the bottom restrict the movement of the wind and create the moist air zone because of the evaporating water from the pots. But we also know that fungus develops well in such moist air. It means that farmers need to prune the lowest leaves to create enough breathing space for the vegetables.

Believe it or not, the shape of the fruit significantly affects the profits that farmers get when they are selling cucumbers to traders. The curved cucumbers do not fit properly into the wooden boxes, so after that, they get damaged during the transport because they keep bouncing. The straight cucumbers fit well in the boxes so that doesn't happen.
