📌 Pegging Modern Geophysics to the Qur'an in Terms of Mountains!

أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Assalamu-Alaikum-wa-Rahmatullahi- wa-Barakatuh!

Surah An-Naba (78:6-7) of the Qur'an uses advanced descriptions of geology when it states that the Earth is a resting place and that mountains are stabilizing pegs (Awtad) within the framework of that geological model. Without understanding the science of geology or geophysics, people for centuries simply described mountains as topographical features of the Earth's surface.

Now, with scientific advances dealing with plate tectonics and geophysics, we know that mountains have large, long (several times the visible height) subterranean roots that connect them deeply into the Earth. These roots serve to moor continental plates firmly into the Earth's mantle, thus reducing the likelihood of major earthquakes caused by continental crustal movement.
