Assalamu-Alaikum-wa-Rahmatullahi- wa-Barakatuh!

The Qur'an contains information about plant biology that relates to us through Surah Taha (20:53), where it states that God sends down the rain so that He can create pairs of one type of plant with another type of plant. Until recently, we didn't know why this was the case because most of our historic knowledge about reproduction had focused primarily on the animal kingdom's use of pollination or gender traits. Today, however, modern science has shown us that almost all types of plants must have both male and female organs in order to produce fruit and continue their species. This occurs either as one male and one female on separate dioecious plants (like the willow tree) or both male and female within the same flower (like a sunflower). Each of these methods utilizes very specific genetic pairings for both production of fruit and reproduction of their species.
