The mosquito-hunting drone

Another drone is a French invention unveiled on July 14th by the company Tornigol System; if mosquitoes really bother you, I think you’re going to like this. In the video, you’ll see someone release a mosquito, and the thing hunting it down isn't a bat—which would be the classic scenario. At least in my town, on summer nights, there are tons of little bats hunting mosquitoes—it’s amazing—but this device uses a drone instead.

It is a small drone, weighing about 40 grams, that detects insects and eliminates them in mid-air. Designed to patrol indoor spaces or areas near the home, it uses microphones, sensors, and a 3D acoustic sonar system. Once it locates a mosquito using its sensors and microphones, it autonomously calculates the insect's flight path and intercepts it by colliding with it using its propellers.

All of this is packed into that 40-gram frame, and it can be programmed to target only mosquitoes—meaning it detects the specific buzzing sound and physical characteristics of a mosquito. It won't go after a bee or any other insect that shouldn't be targeted; please don't kill bees—they’re just looking for flowers. If they wander into your house, it’s by mistake, so please don't kill them.

The mosquito-hunting drone will go on sale for around €100 per unit; I imagine it’ll be a huge hit—say goodbye to mosquitoes with this drone.
