Protecting large industrial areas has always required a costly combination of security guards, patrol vehicles, and fixed monitoring systems. Beyond the high cost, there is another issue: people get tired. Vehicles require constant maintenance and do not always manage to patrol every location efficiently. It was to address this challenge that the 1Rollo was created—an autonomous robot designed to conduct continuous patrols, day and night, in industrial settings, logistics centers, and large corporate facilities.

The most impressive aspect of the project is precisely its locomotion system.

Instead of using four wheels, the robot balances on a single wheel using an internal flywheel that functions as a high-speed gyroscope. This system keeps the unit stable while in motion. To change direction, the robot tilts its internal assembly, shifting its center of gravity to execute smooth, extremely precise turns. Despite weighing nearly 45 kg, it can reach speeds of around 30 km/h while maintaining stability—even on uneven terrain. However, speed alone is not enough for surveillance; the 1Roll combines computer vision cameras, obstacle detection sensors, and centimeter-level precision satellite positioning (RTK GNSS). This enables it to follow pre-defined routes, identify people or vehicles that deviate from expected patterns, and instantly transmit images and alerts to human operators.

Additionally, the robot features integrated microphones and speakers, allowing for remote communication with anyone on-site without requiring a guard to travel to the location.
