Voice of Talent – Singing Contest Week #8
I want to share something personal with you today but inside a song.
The song I sang is called Blessed Assurance and honestly I almost did not post about why.
It felt too close too tender to put into words. But then I figured that's exactly why I should.
This song was my mum's song.
Not officially. No one assigned it to her. But it might as well have been because I heard her sing it more times than I can count.
While she cooked. While cleaning the house mostly on Saturdays morning. While sitting down quietly in her chair after a long day. She didn't sing it to impress anyone.
I did know how deeply that melody had settled into me until she was gone. Suddenly all the things.
Every single time I sing the song I remind her moment in the kitchen watching her cook and lot of things. "this is my story, this is my song," I'm not performing.
I'm right back in that kitchen, watching her hands move, feeling like a kid again.
I am sharing this now because life has been throwing a lot of change towards me lately.
New month new unknown things, a lot of I don't know what is next.
And in the middle of all that singing this hymn has felt like holding her hand again like. It's about trusting anyway.
So this isn't really a performance for a contest. It's me continuing something she started. Her story became mine somewhere along the way. And today, I'm just... singing it out loud.
Here's the lyrics of the song
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
Chorus
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long
