Who is the person that inspired me the most?
Greetings to everyone in this amazing community.
I’m so glad to join this contest. Inspiration comes in many forms, but the greatest lessons I’ve learned in life came from watching someone close to me overcome every obstacle in her path.
Let me tell you about the person who inspires me every single day.
When people talk about inspiration, they often point toward distant celebrities, famous leaders, or historical figures. But for me, my true inspiration lived right under the same roof with me. The person who inspires me the most in this world is my elder sister, ONOGU RUTH ENEMONA.
As the first daughter of our family, she carried a unique kind of responsibility, but more than that, she carried grace.
Growing up in a typical rural area, the general belief around us was that rising to the top was nearly impossible. People easily allowed their environment to define their limits. But my big sister proved time and time again that being born in a village does not set the boundary for your destiny. Through her pure gift, and passion, she showed me what it truly means to build something out of nothing. We are three girls in my family and this picture below contains my big sister the first daughter ( the one who inspired me) then the one following her (second daughter) myself writing this ( last baby of the house).😂
How did you meet or know the person?
I didn't have to meet her at a conference or read about her in a book; I grew up watching her every single day. Being my elder sister, she was part of my world from the very beginning, but my real understanding of who she was began back when she was still in secondary school.
I can still vividly remember how hard she worked back then. While other teenagers would come home from school and relax, my sister would hurry back, take off her school uniform, eat her lunch, and immediately run off to her tailoring apprenticeship. My mother would try to force her to rest a little bit before going, but my sister wouldn't hear of it. She was so determined to learn. Even when she faced serious maltreatment from her boss at work, she never brought the complaints home. She kept the pain to herself and went back to that shop every single day, except only on Sunday.
Then came the part of her story that still makes me laugh till today. The original agreement was for her to train for a full year. But barely five months in, her boss suddenly told her not to step foot in her shop again. Confused, my sister came home to report. My mother had to go straight to the woman's house to beg, asking what my sister could have possibly done wrong.
The woman’s reason was the most hilarious thing I have ever heard in my life: she said my sister was learning way too fast—much faster than her own daughter who had been there for years.😂 That was how her formal apprenticeship ended, but it didn't stop her. In fact, it was just the beginning.
What qualities or actions inspired you?
What inspires me most about my sister is her relentless determination, her ability to turn obstacles into stepping stones, and her unending kindness.
After she was dismissed, her talent was already speaking for her. Within those five months of balancing school and sewing, she had become so good that her friends started bringing wrappers for her to sew.
Watching my big sister grow into the woman she is today completely reframed how I look at life. She taught me that excuses are useless. If someone who was turned away for "learning too fast" and denied t of using other people's machines could end up owning her own brand like E-special clothing, then I have no excuse to give up on my own dreams.
More importantly, she changed my perspective on how to treat people when you finally reach the top. You would think that someone who suffered such maltreatment as a young apprentice would grow up to be harsh or strict with her own trainees. But my sister chose grace over bitterness. Today, she treats all her apprentices like family. She feeds them at her shop, teaches them patiently, and genuinely rejoices when they learn quickly.
showing me that success is meaningless if it doesn't make you a better and kind human being.
What lesson do you continue to follow because of them?
The biggest lesson I carry from her every single day is perseverance coupled with genuine kindness.
Life will present unfair situations, people might get jealous of your progress, doors might be shut in your face, and your resources might be limited to start. But if you keep your head down, work hard, and maintain a good heart, your skills will eventually create a place for you in life.
Whenever I face a tough situation or feel like giving upl, I just look at my sister, ONOGU RUTH ENEMONA. I remember the young girl who ran to work after school, a girl who never give up even when the world was harsh, and the woman who now makes beautiful ready to wear with love and patience.
