The Scent of Soil and Silent Warnings
Living in a rural area of the Kashmir Valley is nothing short of a privilege and a blessing. I feel proud to live in a village surrounded by serene hills that not only enhance the beauty of the landscape but also provide space for farmers and orchards, which form the backbone of the rural economy. Beyond the economic aspect, the natural beauty these hills offer is truly remarkable—something one can deeply relate to while living in such a peaceful environment.
It is a place where one can forget worries, depression, and anxieties, and reconnect with nature. I often try to spend time in the orchards, where the lush greenery brings a sense of calm and positivity. The abundance of green all around is soothing and serves as a perfect way to pass time while finding inner peace.
This landscape is truly special—something that urban areas can hardly offer. Here, there is minimal pollution, very little noise, and no rush of life. People can often be seen walking around, embracing peace, serenity, and positivity. The paths leading to our orchards, surrounded by vibrant greenery, are unforgettable and leave a lasting impression on anyone who experiences them.
That beautiful smell of clay and aroma that is quite prevalent in these areas has a soothing effect on the mind and soul. One can easily detox while staying in such surroundings and truly feel a positive change, rarely wanting to leave. For me, it is heaven, and the inner satisfaction one experiences here is truly unprecedented and unparalleled.
Having such places just an arm’s length away from our home is no less than a blessing. However, people need to be quite careful about nature and its preservation. Harming nature could cost us this beauty and peace.
With increasing involvement in farming activities and the introduction of imported species and varieties of fruits, new challenges have emerged. Different diseases have accompanied these varieties, leading to a strong need for spraying various chemicals in orchards. This, in turn, harms nature and inevitably impacts human lives as well. I wish these diseases could be minimized with minimal effort and reduced use of chemicals, allowing us to live in greater harmony with nature.
