I’m Joshua, a furniture maker based in Enugu. Let me share what my day looked like today.

‎I woke up by 6:30 AM and honestly, I didn’t feel like going to work. My body was still tired from yesterday, and NEPA had not brought light. I checked my phone – no new customer messages. For a minute, I thought of just staying back and resting. But then I remembered the wardrobe I promised a customer for Friday. They already paid part of the money. If I don’t deliver, my name will spoil. So I quickly ate something and left for my workshop around 7:30 AM.

‎When I got to the workshop at 8:00 AM, there was still no NEPA light. That’s normal for us here. I switched on my generator immediately. We use plywood for our work, and I need my machines to cut it well. I started working on the wardrobe. With the generator running, I used my electric planer and drill to shape and join the plywood. By 11:00 AM, the wardrobe was already looking good. The doors were fixed and everything was coming together nicely. Without that generator, I would have just sat down doing nothing

‎Around 2:00 PM, a woman from my street walked into the workshop. She said her shop stool got damaged and she needed a new one urgently for tomorrow. Luckily, I had some plywood pieces left from the wardrobe. I told her I could do it. I used my electric saw and drill to cut and fix the stool. No hand smoothing – everything was done with machines. By 4:30 PM, the stool was ready. She liked it and thanked me for the fast work. Small jobs like that help keep the workshop moving

‎I closed the workshop at 6:00 PM. I was tired, but I felt good. On a day I almost didn’t go to work, I built a full wardrobe and a stool. That’s why I always say: don’t wait for perfect conditions. NEPA may not bring light, but my generator will. If I had stayed home, I would have lost a full day of work.

‎Tomorrow I’ll go back to put the final touches on the wardrobe before delivery. Thanks for reading my diary.
