A parked car in my neighbourhood tell a story
Greeting Steemit Family
Lately, I have found myself paying attention to the small things around my neighbourhood. Things I used to take for granted are now starting to stand out. For over a month now, each time I walk past this same spot, I see this car. At first, I assumed it was just parked temporarily, maybe the owner stepped out, maybe it would be gone the next day.
But days turned into weeks, and nothing changed. The car is still there. The tires are flat. One of the windows is down, which means whenever it rains, water goes straight inside. And around here, rain is not something you can ignore. It comes, and it comes properly. Standing there, looking at it, I could not help but reflect.
In my community, cars are not luxuries. They are necessities. Owning one is not cheap, and maintaining one is another level entirely. So when you see a car sitting like this for so long, it tells a story. Something is wrong. Most likely, it is a serious fault that needs money to fix. And sometimes, that money is not readily available. So the car stays waiting at the spot of the breakdown.
But here is the part that got me thinking deeper. Leaving a car parked on the roadside for too long does not solve the problem. It quietly adds to it. With time, more damage sets in. Rainwater entering the car can affect the interior, electrical systems, and even cause rust. The flat tires may get worse. Parts begin to weaken just from sitting idle. What started as one fault slowly becomes many.
And then there is another concern. Security of the car. A car left in that condition becomes an easy target. Small parts can go missing without anyone noticing immediately. Piece by piece, it can be stripped down, making the eventual repair even more expensive than it already was. So, in trying to wait and fix one problem, the situation grows into something bigger.
That is the quiet cost of delay. I stood there for a moment longer than usual, just looking at it, not judging, but understanding. Situations like this are not always by choice. Sometimes, life just places you in that position. But at the same time, it is a reminder. What we leave unattended does not stay the same.
It changes. It deteriorates. It demands more later than it would have earlier. I found myself hoping the owner finds a way soon not just to move the car, but to fix it before it turns into something beyond repair. Because sometimes, what looks like waiting is actually losing more with time. And in a place where having a car already means so much, letting it fade as this feels like watching something valuable slowly slip away.
Cheers
