Hello friends!

Welcome to Week 2 of this exciting cultural journey: “My Taste, My Culture” (Expressing Culture Through Taste).

🌍 What is this week about? — Across Borders

Last week, we explored foods that reflect our identity and heritage. It was a fulfilling experience seeing the diversity in our cultures.

This week, we go a step further…

👉 We step into another culture through food.

Food is a universal language.
It allows us to experience another people’s tradition, lifestyle, and history—without leaving our homes.

Every culture has a meal that tells a story about:

  • Its origin
  • Its people
  • Its environment
  • Its identity

This week is about curiosity, respect, and cross-cultural exploration.

🍲 My Cultural Exploration

I am from the eastern part of Nigeria (Igbo precisely), and for this week’s exploration, I prepared Afang Soup, a rich and nutritious dish from the Efik and Ibibio people of Southern Nigeria (Cross River and Akwa Ibom State).

IMG_4512.jpeg

Afang soup is made from afang leaves and waterleaf, cooked with assorted meats, stockfish, dry fish, periwinkles, and palm oil. It is commonly eaten with swallow like fufu, garri, or pounded yam but can also be eaten with any swallow of choice.

Though this meal is not from my tribe, preparing it helped me understand the culture of the Efik and Ibibio people.

In their culture, this dish represents:

  • Abundance – it has rich and diverse ingredients.
  • Hospitality – often served to guests and on special occasions.
  • Tradition – it’s passed down through generations.

👉 This is more than just a meal—it is a cultural experience across borders.

I'm very excited for the culture food challenge because we have a great food

Ma’am @alexanderpeace ! I just wanted to confirm if making a paratha roll and a wrap is okay for this challenge.”

If it’s not an appetizer or a dessert and it’s not your own cultural meal, then it’s okay.

You are to make a food that belongs to another culture.

Don’t forget to state your own culture and then the other culture that has the food that you made.

This is a public space and you should be careful of what you are insinuating.

If you concentrate more on learning and trying to be better maybe you would have read the remarks I made in your post, understand where you are falling short and then improve.

If you check your posts last week, I corrected you on somethings and you didn’t take note of them and you made the same mistake again this week. Because you are obviously not focused on learning. Did you even read my remarks?

If you take your time and read the remarks the teacher makes on your class work you will see how to improve.

I cannot markdown someone that did well or markup someone that didn’t do well. It’s all in the comments as to why everyone gets what they got.

  • Your explanations in task 2 and three were missing some key elements in tacking the questions with repetitions and grammatical errors which I clearly stated. These affected your marks

  • you didn’t include a poetic cultural cliche . You didn’t also include it last week which I corrected you but you didn’t take corrections and you lost 0.5 marks. If you had included that, you would have gotten 8.7 at least.

The person you are accusing of did better and followed the instructions that you didn’t follow. Her task 2 and 3 hit key points rightly and she added a poetic cultural cliche to her post but you didn’t. Why shouldn’t I give her a good score?

If you had paid attention to the instructions you won’t be here getting stupid ideas.

I have done other teachers challenge as they scored me 5.5, 6.5, 7.5 and etc. instead of accusing them of being partial, I read through their remark and learn where I’ve done wrong and then work on corrections.

I don’t take your accusations lightly. Please don’t come under my assessment and write this type of thing again.

If you don’t want to learn and correct your mistakes that I obviously pointed out and you keep making baseless accusations, you don’t need to engage in my challenge. There are plenty others you can engage.

I have made myself clear. Please don’t try this again or I would report you to the steemit team.
