Assalam-O-Alaikum Friends,

Hello friends,

IMG_20260512_115131.jpgIMG_20260512_115126.jpg

You all are heartily welcome to my post. Hope you all are healthy and happy. First of all I would like to heartily thank @alexanderpeace for organizing this beautiful and creative competition. The theme Meri Swad Meri Sanskriti is really very special because it connects us with our family, traditions and the tastes that have been a part of our lives since childhood. Food is not just a means to fill our stomach, but it is also a symbol of our culture, emotions and family relationships. There are some dishes whose aroma brings back childhood memories. There is such a special dish in our house. Chicken Kadhi.

This dish has been made in our family for many years. Whenever there is a happy occasion at home. Guests come or the whole family sits together and eats food. Then mother definitely prepares delicious chicken kadhi with her own hands. Its fragrance spreads throughout the house and everyone eagerly waits to eat.Today I am going to share the recipe of this traditional family dish, the memories related to it and its cultural significance with all of you.

Task 1: Preparation (3 marks)Prepare a meal that reflects your family culture and heritage. (Show clear steps of your ingredients and cooking process. Present the meal Beautifully with a name tag and selfie.)

Turmeric Powder1/2 tablespoon

Step 1 – Marinating the chicken

IMG_20260513_122629.jpgIMG_20260513_122715.jpg

First of all, I washed and cleaned the chicken thoroughly. After that, mix curd, turmeric, red chilli, coriander powder, garam masala, salt and ginger-garlic paste in a big vessel. Now add chicken in this masala and mix well so that all the spices get coated well on the chicken. After this I kept the chicken covered for about 30 minutes.

Second step – preparing the masala

Now I chopped the onion finely. After that I placed a big pan on the gas and heated oil in it. After the oil is hot, add finely chopped onions and fry them until they turn golden brown. After that add ginger-garlic paste. Now I added chopped tomatoes and cooked the masala until the oil started separating. This step is very important because this is where the real taste of the kadhi comes from.

Step 3 – Cooking the Chicken

IMG_20260512_113812.jpgIMG_20260512_114936.jpg

Now add the marinated chicken to the spices. I again added all the spices as per taste. So that the words sound good. I mixed it well so that the spices cooked well with the chicken. Gradually the chicken started releasing its water and its aroma started becoming more delicious. I cooked it on medium flame for about 20 minutes. Now when the chicken was cooked well, I served it in a dish.

Who taught you this recipe? Was it your mother, father, grandparent, or another family member? Share the story behind this dish in your family. Is it tied to your childhood, special memories, or family traditions? Why has this recipe been preserved over time? What makes it important to your family identity?

My mother taught me this recipe. Chicken Kadhi has been made in our house for many generations. My grandmother also used to make the same recipe and later my mother learned it. Now mother has taught me this recipe. In my childhood, special food was prepared in our house every Sunday. Right from the morning, the aroma of spices would start coming in the kitchen and we would know that chicken kadhi was going to be prepared today. I still remember that I used to sit near my mother in the kitchen and watch her cooking. Sometimes she would peel onions, sometimes she would clean coriander and sometimes she would help in mixing spices. Mother gradually taught me everything. When I made chicken kadhi for the first time by myself, mother praised me a lot. That day was very special for me because I felt that now I too can carry forward this tradition of my family.

In our family, this dish is made not just for taste but also to bring the family together. When everyone sits together and eats, there is more love in relationships. This recipe has been preserved because it is a part of our family identity. It includes not just spices but mother's love, family memories and our culture.

What does this meal say about your family’s way of life?Does it reflect values like unity, tradition, hospitality, or resilience? How does this dish connect your present life to your past?

Chicken Kadhi beautifully reflects the lifestyle and culture of our family. It is considered very important at our place to feed our guests delicious home-cooked food with love. Whenever a guest comes to the house, mother used to make special chicken kadhi. This food teaches us that simplicity and familiarity are the greatest things. Eating together is one of the most beautiful traditions of our family. In today's busy life, people prefer to eat outside but the taste and feelings of home food are nowhere to be found. Chicken Kadhi is not just a dish for me but a part of my childhood and family memories.

Whenever I make this, I feel as if I have gone back to my old days. Its aroma reminds me of mother's kitchen, family laughter and childhood happiness. This dish connects my present life with my past. Today I also try to teach the same taste and tradition to my children so that the coming generations also remain connected to their culture.

For me, chicken curry is not just food but an emotion. It reminds me of my family and childhood every time. In today's modern world, people are getting more attracted towards fast food, but traditional food at home is different. It not only has taste but also intimacy and love. I am proud that I learned this beautiful recipe from my mother and I want to pass it on to the future generations.
