Pencil drawing tutorial // lost in thoughts
Greetings, steemians and the wonderful members of this community. It's a new week, and today I’m excited to share another pencil portrait from my sketchbook. The drawing shows a man sitting inside a car, looking through the window with a thoughtful expression. His eyes tell a quiet story, and that was the feeling I wanted to preserve throughout the drawing process. Below, I will explain each stage of the process.
Drawing materials
• A4 paper
• 2B pencil
• 4B pencil
• 6B pencil
• charcoal pencil
• black pen
• Eraser
• Sharpener
• Tissue paper for gentle blending
Drawing process
Step 1
I always begin with a light outline using my HB pencil, and then, once the proportions looked accurate, I started refining the face. I carefully developed the forehead, cheeks and nose.
Step 2
next I worked on the entire face; I spent extra time adjusting their shape and adding subtle shadows around the eyelids. The wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes were added gradually since they help reveal the character's emotions and maturity. Including the beards as well.
Step 3
With the major features complete, I moved on to shading. Using different graphite grades allowed me to separate the highlights from the darker shadows. I also shaded his hair as well.
Step 4
After doing that, I focused on the background. The curved car window became an important part of the composition. Instead of leaving it plain, I added smooth shading around it so the face would become the main point of focus. Keeping the background simple prevented it from competing with the portrait.
Step 5
Then finally, I added darker lines and small details where necessary, and then my drawing was now complete. Below is my final result.
My selfie with my drawing
Creating this drawing took patience, concentration, and many careful pencil strokes, but I truly enjoyed every stage of the process. Thank you all for stopping by my post and taking the time to view my latest artwork. I hope you all like it.
I'd love to invite @saintkelvin17, @dequeen, @tammanna and @m-princess.
Have a nice week
