How are you? Hope you are all well by the grace of Allah. The immortal witness of history is the Hajiganj Fort, which is also known as the Khizirpur Fort. This historical fort was built during the Mughal period. This fort was built on the banks of the river to protect it from pirate attacks. According to historians, Islam Khan built it. This historical fort was built to protect the locals from the hands of the Mughal and Portuguese pirates, soon after the Mughal capital was shifted to Dhaka.
The fort, which is made of strong, wide bricks with a square shape, was once protected. With the change of time, some of the bricks of the fort have eroded. But the main structure is still standing as a witness to history. As if it still reminds us of the contribution of the fort.
During the time of the fort, no pirate could enter the fort by crossing it. The strong brick structure of the fort also has many places with holes to deal with any unwanted incidents. Sharp spears, sabers, and two-barreled guns of that period could be fired through the holes. There were also places to fire cannons.
In short, all kinds of arrangements were reserved for fighting the Mughal and Portuguese pirates in this Hajiganj fort. When you visit the fort, you can still see those holes and cannons of the past.
Hajiganj fort is located in Hajiganj Mahalla of Narayanganj on the west bank of the Shitalakshya. This place can be easily reached by any vehicle.
Once upon a time, Hajiganj Fort was a symbol of certainty, a mantra to spend the night with a sure mind. A symbol of safety for life and property. Now it is all history. With time, the Mughal Empire ended, and the Mughal and Portuguese pirates also disappeared. The river through which piracy used to take place is no more, but Hajiganj Fort is a witness to history.
Today, the charm of Hajiganj Fort is no more. Due to a lack of maintenance, the fort has fallen into a dilapidated condition. Lack of care, lack of love is also observed. Then, for history lovers, for archaeologists, it is like an encyclopedia.
Although the fort seems simple, its construction style is like research. I salute those who built such a wonderful fort from the bottom of my heart. It was because of their tireless work that the historical fort was built.
