Portrait: The Legendary Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson of blessed memory, lived between 1958 and 2009. He transformed pop music in the 1980s, combining soul, disco, and pop with unrivalled music production. With this, he was recognised as the king of pop music and an entertainer. He was named the most successful entertainer of all time by Guinness World Records, and his fame extended to even the most remote and isolated locations worldwide.

Today, I drew the portrait of the legend on the microphone and below is a detailed explanation of the process.

Materials for the drawing

• White A4 embossed paper
• 6B pencil
• 4B pencil
• 2B pencil
• HB pencil
• Eraser
• Razor blade

Step 1
I first drew the left eye, the eyebrow and the nose using both HB and a 6B pencil. I also shaded the eyelashes.

Step 2
I drew the second eye and shaded the eyelashes and the eyebrow. I used the HB and 6B pencil.

Step 3
I drew the mouth of the legendary musician which is wide open. I also drew the set of teeth at the upper palate and then shaded both the lips and the inner part of the mouth. I also shaded the cheek to help show his facial expression. Here, I used an HB pencil, a 2B pencil, and a 6B pencil.

Step 4
I sketched the face from the forehead down to the cheek and lower jaw and then concluded by drawing the right ear.

Step 5
I drew the microphone pointing at his mouth and his left hand holding the microphone. I used the HB and 2B pencil to achieve this stage.

Step 6
I shaded part of the hair on his head using a 6B pencil. I also drew his neck and shoulder using the scribble shading method. Lastly, on this step, I drew the zip of his shirt.

Step 7
I completed shading the hair on his head using a 6B pencil. I shaded his face and showed how some of the hair on his head rests on his forehead.

Step 8
Here, I shaded his hands and the microphone he is holding using a 2B pencil with scribbled shading method.
