The Dairy Game| A Great Melon Harvest | 13/07/2026.

Hello steemians, today I will be sharing with you all my day on the farm, where I went to harvest Melon (Egusi). We set sail for our farm at 10:30 AM and got there by 11:00 AM. My mother and I first went to the farm alone before my friend Ikechukwu77 and my brother came to the farm; after we had already spent 15 minutes there, beginning to harvest the crop.

I started picking them up into the buckets to gather them together while my mother was busy helping gather the melons on the farm so that I could easily pack them. When they arrived, my brother and friend assisted me in packing them together. As we were working to get the crops together for the next step, we discovered that the bush animal that was eating our corn had damaged about 10 stems of corn, adding to the 32 already destroyed stems.

I felt like crying because honestly I couldn't imagine this happening to our farm ever. It was something we had never experienced in that area of our farm where we also cultivate Yam, Cassava, pumpkin leaf (ugu), and groundnuts, etc. I was furious because I personally planted corn, and for the corn not to thrive because of wild animals is really painful.

We continued to pack the melons, and after we finished packing them around 01:39 PM, we started to break the Melons in half so that they would decay for easy removal of the seeds; this is usually done so that the process becomes easier.

We first of all began to cut the Melons with a cutlass, which caused some seeds to get destroyed; we had no idea how to break them at first because we were just planting melons on our farm for the first time. When mother discovered that the cutlass was harming us, she asked us to make use of stones and sticks, which turned out to be perfect.

We then broke the Melons into halves (unequal/equal) to allow them to get soft for washing. This was the most tiring work of the day. We kept looking for faster ways to break them because some were just fresh and the rest weren't. With time, hard work, and patience, we finished breaking the required amount my mother asked us to break, and after that we cut some maize and went home at 3:14 PM. It was really a blessed harvest all thanks to God.
